Tyre failure

Well this just happened to my 6 months old Super sport tyre. Did roughly 8,000 kms.

Lucky I was just exiting the freeway. Can't imagine if I was tracking and it failed when I was doing 200kms

Thats not good.

I have seen that kind of failure quite a bit where the tyre has been run at low pressure for a prolonged period. Usually someone who doesn't check the tyre pressure and has been driving around at 10psi for a month.

That shouldn't happen with these cars obviously, with TPMS etc. Presumably a manufacturing defect. I would contact the manufacturer

Looks nasty but as you say could have been worse.

I'd be interested to see what the actual date stamp was on that tyre.

The tyre was provided by and installed by the dealership 6 months ago. I can look at the production date stamp.

Now I'm after a pair of 275/35/19

Super sport tyres have been discontinued. It is most likely the dealership using old stock of the Super Sports. My local dealership only stock PS4S and Cup2 BMW compound specific tyres
