My understanding is if they have an actual allocation, you should be able to get a production number. I had mine same day of order (After I put in a deposit).

Sounds like they were stringing you along while hoping they could grab an allocation from another dealer. Sounds like it's time for an uncomfortable conversation.

No, because, as the thread title states, MY2018 production does not begin until July. Cars built through February will be MY2017. Any US order in the pipeline now that for some reason does not get built by the end of February (which I'd think would be rare occurence) is going to be delayed four months.

They had stated that. They were trying to find an allocation from another dealer. They stated that they did but if they didn't, it is no big deal as I can wait until the 2018 model for the LCI update. They did tell me that they found an allocation from their parent dealer and that the build should start 3rd week of Jan to the 1st week of February. I don't know. Lets see how this turns out.

At this point you would likely be a week 3 to week 5 build, have a production number, and be status "scheduled for production".

Just spoke with my CA here in Germany who does US sales. Production does not begin until July. She said that is a fact.

Since you weren't clear in your post, can you confirm that you are talking about a US spec car? If so, what your CA says corroborates with what has been discussed in this thread.

That is correct. That is for US Spec (and German spec, which are made simultaneously) cars. It is also consistent with the Regensburg factory's cycle. I've been there right after the changeover in July. It's quite cool. I also got to see the paint shop and why individual paint costs so much more. It literally is a PITA for them.

Not for the LCI. It starts in March. The same thing happened with the E92 LCI too - it's started in March (of 2010).

You may have seen the sticky thread at the top of this forum with the official press release from BMW announcing the LCI changes. The reason they are being announced now is because production starts in just a few weeks. If production were starting in July, any changes would be announced in the spring as they typically are for July production.

Only for the US (and Canada, so it seems) has production been delayed until July. Hence no official LCI announcement from BMW NA yet.

Interesting
At the 3 Series Rosslyn plant here the only difference is the batch of cars painted that colour is smaller than for other colours. So the cost to clear the lines before the next colour is higher per vehicle

At the Spartanburg line they dont run the paint through lines but use a container system, so the cost difference is just down to the individual paint ingredients and storage.

The ingredient cost for some of the Individual colours is quite a bit higher than for the regular ones.

A once off colour would have quite a bit higher storage and cleaning costs compared to the "regular" Individual colours that are run in batches.

The official US announcement called for March production.... interesting twist. Error or was the July start misdirection?

I maintain my earlier opinion that the new cars will be at dealerships / in customers hands at the end of March.

That is not possible for the US IMO. If production starts in March, you need to account for the transit time by boat and that takes over a month.

Does anyone know when BMW will "officially" announce when LCI cars will be available in the US?

there are a few spots left for February production for 2017s. Once those are gone its done till production starts in July for 2018.

I believe I have posted this a few times in this thread. hopefully that clears up any questions anyone has

Have you seen the recent chatter about M4 production reportedly starting in March now? I wonder if your dealership has any information. Other members have mentioned already being granted March M4 allocations.

Nothing new about the M3 on the other hand is so we can assume it still held back to July.

July for M3/M4 2018s. I dont follow the chatter just causes confusion. I just report what David and the others in our team get directly from BMW.

If production was starting in March we would have had pricing, ordering sheets, etc.. prior to march. We usually get that info months before roll out. I can't comment on any other timelines for out of US locations
I asked again this morning and its still July direct from David

I'm wondering this too. The Canadian pricing guide specifically notes March '17 production, and everything I had heard previously said July.

I'm really hoping for a mid/late July ED on an M4, and I have no idea if that is feasible.

Since yo're doing ED, I think a July pick-up from a July production is quite possible (that's what I did back in 2014). You just need to secure your allocation. Options can be finalized up to ~5 weeks prior to production start.

Great, thanks!

I have no idea when dealers are expected to get allocations for MY18 cars. I haven't seen the US pricing guide release yet either.

I am not sure how it works in the US, but here in Canada, I put down a deposit well before the ordering/pricing guide was published. Since I was doing an ED, BMW Canada arranged a secured allocation for me through the dealer. I then selected my build when the the ordering guide came out. I was told I could modify my build up to ~5 weeks prior to production.
