help with DCT behaviour

Hi all,

I have a basic question regarding the operation of the DCT. Is there any way to stop it from auto downshifting when in manual mode. I ask as sometimes I would downshift just about the time the DCT does an auto downshift and this results in a 2 gear downshift. i.e. I end up in 1st and overrev, when I wanted 2nd.

I have experimented in different driving modes both DCT and engine. seems to not matter.

Thanks in advance

I’d imagine if there were a way to turn it off you get people stalling their cars.

If you are talking about slowing down lets say to a stop, yes all DCT cars will downshift in this regard, otherwise it will stall.

Can't turn it off but you will get use to it. If you are slow enough for the car to shift into first (sub 15/20 mph) I just don't downshift. If happend to me a fair number of times when i first got the car, now it never happens. You will feel it out better over time.

thanks everyone.

Yep, I just have to adjust to it. It's only when I drive slowly up to lights of an intersection. It sounds like I'm leaving it too late (just don't need to be reving when I'm not pushing along).

It is only a concern as I've been caught out a few times and am paranoid about "the crank hub" talks... Yes I realise I'm not doing it flat out so probably no need to worry.

When you know you will be coming to a stop, just let it downshift on its own. The DCT programming knows what to do at the right shift points. This will avoid excessive wear over the long term especially if you own vs lease. I see the auto downshift as an extra added feature.

This exactly. Typically in DCT cars I'll downshift manually to 3rd and then let the car handle the 2nd and 1st gear changes.

I think I've had it happen twice and each time I made a mental note to never downshift below 25 mph.

My last car was a 2009 GTR, and that DCT was VERY stingy with downshifting manually. I got into the habit of just getting to 3rd and then the car would do the rest. Even getting to 1st required a complete stop to engage.
