I did order the K&N but read in the comments that the filter comes with a lot of oil on it. Did any of you find this concerning? Did you wipe some off?

I didn’t think mine were over saturated out of the box. If you’re really concerned you could use the filter recharge kit to clean and re-oil the filters before installing them. I dropped mine right in though

If you're one of those people buying these for "the power", you're one of those people..... you know what I mean.

Oil catches the smaller particles. Leave as is and run it.

I lean towards K&N after the red surround material on my E92's BMC filter started crumbling and I found bits of in the intake manifold. K&N with charcoal filters removed on the F80 for the last 24k of its 25k miles.

Thoughts and opinions appreciated!
Stay with your stock filter, as you won´t have more sound nor more power nor less costs.
And you don´t put your turbos at risk

You get more sound from higher flow filters or intakes, but thats not debatable, as you can easily hear it as soon as you replace the intake.

As mentioned earlier, customer threads showed increased power by only upgrading the filters.

Please post data on the risks. I have not heard of a single turbo failing after an upgraded filter.

Everyone who has a little knowledge about modern supercharged direct injection engines knows, that injection and turbos are responsible and controlling the amount of air and airflow and not a filter with a little bit more throughput, which additionally can cause little particle flowing through and may harm the turbo.

Additionally Germany´s ADAC also tested:

You made 3 points in your post
1- sound
2- power
3- risk

I answered all of them clearly, so you decided to ignore 2 of them since it's not even debatable.

You assume no power will be gained with higher flow filters/intakes on any turbo engine.

The data posted during the last 15 years show that you are correct with some BMW engines and you are incorrect with others.

The S55 is one of the engines proven to make some power with higher flow filters/intakes.

I can quote as many articles as I want to support my theories, but at the end of the day, the data is what matters.

I'm confused; what does your picture have to do with the kind of filter you are using?

BMC without a doubt. You'll see the quality in the wicking and filtering media.

We always have BMC in stock.
