*Car: F82 (see mods below)
*Track: NJMP Thunderbolt
*Best Lap: 1:34:08
*Notes: Timed with M Laptimer link to car's ecu. Stock tires (contis!) and RS29 pads...

Yup, contis did "ok", but it's clear to me they just get too greasy. If I were tracking in the summer or any higher temps, it would have been a lot worse. Going to put on AD08 Rs next season I think.

Worst roll over I've ever seen was at Road Atlanta, during an HPDE with an M3 driven by an idiot that hit the 10a gravel pit sideways hard.

But what about this problem: FYI Cup cars are incredibly solid..

Was that by any chance a black E46 about 3 years ago?

Awful time I know but had fun doing main until I totaled my car doing an off line exercise.

Can't wait to hit it with the M4! What time improvements should I see?

I ran half of the open track day Friday and then participated in the NASA hpde weekend. I make 4 runs in group 1 Saturday and 3 sessions Sunday. The final session on Sunday I was promoted to group 3 and got my sign off. Very excited! I didn't time the runs over the weekend so I could focus more on learning. I really enjoyed myself and my instructor was great. Didn't micromanage me and after he decided I wasn't going to kill him he started to relax a bit. Ha. We may have had a few oversteer moments . Also I ran full traction off. With the added power and the bumpy straight exiting 16 and going into 1, I had the mdm kicking in all the way in 5th. Top speed Increased from 130ish to 147-149. They are replacing the long straight over the holidays. I can't wait. The tires and brakes are really exceptional. I need to work on smoothing my entry and exits and I hope to pick up some more confidence in the esses. Always next time!

I think I'm caught up on all the recent entries. Thanks for posting. If I've missed yours please PM me. Don't forget to post your videos too, if you have them. They can't be any worse than my awful videos!

I had my M4 out at Arizona Motorsports Park again recently and had a great day. My instructor has saved me a lot of $$money$$ lately by forbidding me from buying new tires. This is the 7th track day on these R888s, not to mention about 5000 street miles. Only 1-2 seconds off my best times and got some good car control practice in. Also working on my hand positioning, getting closer to a more proper 9/3 instead of my previous 10/2 position.

Need to smooth my entry and exits for sure. This vid was a little over 1 sec off my best time. After my HDPE lessons on the weekend I picked up a few good pointers to try but I won't be back at the track until late January. Btw the re71's are serious performers. They add so much to the car over the stock super sports. Enjoy and any pointers are welcome!

Dude you were flying! Nice work.

I did COTA recently so I'll put up my super slow time. I'm either really inexperienced (about 20 track days total), really bad, or both. I did have fun at my COTA outing despite the rain! I could definitely I
have shaved a lot of time in my braking zones but still wouldn't have come close to your or trkbtch's times.

RS29, Motul 600

Haha, COTA definitely takes some seat time, and I've done about 14 track days there in a 991, which the M4 is not as far behind as I expected.

Sebring

Car: F80 M3 6MT
Track: Sebring International
Best Lap Time: 2:31:000 (Solo DL)
Tires: Stock Michelin PSS
Brakes: Steelies with Pagid yellows Motul 660

This was my first time tracking my daily. I wanted to take it out on track and see what it could do. I had a blast in the car and it was fun to drift the car for 17 turns. The car has insane power and is capable of serious speed, but to be honest I was a little disappointed in the car as a track car. I found it extremely undersprung even with the street tires and very much under-tired. The car felt very heavy to me. The valving in Sport was fine. Sport plus was a little too stiff for Sebring. The car needs at least 305's in the back and coilovers with much bigger rates for R Comps. Would be interested in trying a bigger front sway too.

The brakes, incredible for the first 5 laps, overheated after that. Car needs cooling ducts in the worst way. Which is typical of 99% of the cars in the world that don't bring them form the factory.

Transmission and clutch felt great all day. Easy to find the right gear and heel and toeing was a breeze.

The temperature control!!!! I added temperature because I have never driven a car that stays that cool after a run. The fact that the heat exchanger was cold after a run blew my mind. It is obvious BMW built us a car that can take the pounding. It is just a shame that it needs so much to make it really special.

Maybe I am spoiled. I took my student out for every session and completely blew his mind to where he would not believe me that the car was stock. The car stock is capable of sub 2:30's. With R comps and a legit suspension, mid to low 2:20's. In summary, car is fun and if it is your only option, it has potential. But for me, I would rather track something else.

There was an M4 out there but he looked like he was in a lower run group. Not sure of other people's times out at Sebring in the M.

I'll add a cool pic from the timer here in a minute.

17 at Sebring is great corner, double apex right hander real bumpy. Notice the steering wheel angle. Where Hooliganism and pucker factor reached a climax.

Car: F80 M3 w/ 6MT & EDC
Track: Texas World Speedway
Best Lap Time: 1:57.38 (AIM Solo)
Tires: Toyo Proxes R888 in 275/35/18 & 305/35/18 on Apex EC7 18x10et25 & 18x11et44
Brakes: Stock iron with Pagid RSL pads

Took the M3 out last weekend instead of my usual track rat. Had a blast as I got a feel for the car at speed. Overall, I'm impressed with it - though the limitations of the stock setup make themselves known in places (it is a street car afterall), it's not too hard to work around them, and the car is properly fast. Best lap of the weekend was a 1:57.38 - a fast lap by just about any standard, AND the car has another few seconds in it, even in this configuration.

I drove the first few sessions in Euro MDM. Best time of those sessions was 1:58.6x. I did not find it as restrictive as some commenters here would have led me to believe. Yes, it won't allow big slip angles and it likes to limit power when throttling out of a turn, but you can still turn fast laps with it on. People who find it really restrictive probably need work on smoothing out their inputs.

It should be noted that fuel consumption was prodigious - 6 mpg on track. I got very low on fuel one session just because I'm not used to that burn rate and wasn't watching the fuel gauge very closely. The front tires also took a beating - they won't last more than 2 or 3 weekends at this rate. Though that could be improved somewhat by better adjusting my driving style to this car.

To that end, I found that the car loves Loves LOVES trail braking. Best turn-in response comes when you trail brake it nearly all the way to apex. However there was a limit - a few times I carried too much braking at turn-in and the car responded with massive push - the outside front tire was overwhelmed and gave up. That might have contributed to the front tire wear

All in all, it did well and I had a ton of fun driving it.

Doesn't too much braking on turn in result in over rotation? That might have been MDM. Smooth is fast but dancing on the edge is faster.
