I had a phenomenal track weekend at Lime Rock Park with jfritz27. The car felt great and I managed to break my PB on 2 consecutive laps.

Car: F80 Comp Manual
Mods: MCS 2WR, No Lift Shift tune
Tires: 295/30-18 RE-71RS Square
AV: DJI Action 4 with wireless mic
Fastest time of the weekend: 58.87

And, here is a fun session from weekend. The tires started to get hot towards the end. (power slide at ~12:40)

Nice work! Looks like you're getting some solid consistency out of the RE71RS, with fast lap times coming towards the end of your session. Makes deciding between trying those, the CRS and 3R all that more challenging.

Thank you. The tires had a cool down lap while I patiently awaited point-by from the P cars.

The CRS aree supposed to be tad faster than the 71RS at the expense of heat tolerance. Whatever you decide, you'll never want to go back to the Nittos.

Indeed, great to see D_SheerDrivingPleasure face-to-face again! Can't hold a candle to his times, but working on it!

LRP 8/23/24
MCS 3WR, stock power/aero, RE-71RS 295 square, 034 2-pc rotors, PFC11

Was short-shifting in some areas, which in the moment felt reasonable but I think definitely was costing me time.

Did you experience any odd chassis response or lack of confidence after and/or during a high-speed compressive blowoff valve event? Did you increase both LSC and R by 1-2 clicks or stick with your baseline settings? Was short shifting due to lack of confidence in feel/feedback from the setup?

I did do 1 click stiffer on both... but at LRP there's minimal-to-no curb use (and no other areas where I would think the HSBOV would be active), so I can't really make a comparison regarding the possible issue I was having at Thunderbolt with the car's behavior coming off curbs. The short-shifting (particularly through T4 here) I think was more down to my confidence with that particular section of track, as I have much less experience at LRP overall. The camber falls away there so there is a natural relative loss of traction that happens. Testosterone infusion required.

You're definitely moving considering you're on 200TW with no aero and manual. And you're probably right about the NT01s. The concern is that I was getting only about 4 days out of the older RE71R (non-RS), whereas I get twice as many days out of the Nitto's, If I don't recklessly abuse them. And out of those two, I didn't see better than a few tenths for the RE71.

How many days or dry sessions do you get out of the RE71RS at the pace you've been running?

I'll chime in on this... I finished my recent LRP stint with heat cycle/session #20 (5 days). I'm not as quick there, but decently quick at my home tracks. This is with proper rotation around all 4 corners. I recently increased front camber to somewhere near -3.8, and I think that has help them wear better, they look quite even now. Prior sets I've corded the driver front outside at between 4-5 days. They are past their peak grip at this point.

Should also mention this set is 35 profile, whereas priors were 30. Extra sidewall may be another factor in promoting longevity of the outside portion. I was running hot pressures 33-34 front and 32-33 rear, and with that was basically getting right to the triangular wear indicators.

EDIT: Also don't forget about the new Toyo R (just a little over a 1000 shipped from Phils for a set of 295/30 using the Toyo club discount), which may offer a nice balance between grip and longevity. D and I both have sets of those to try next, but I want to finish off my Pirelli takeoffs first

VERY interested in Proxes R feedback...I was -><- close to ordering some for my ATSV but got "new" scrub DHBs instead

FWIW my last set of 71RS were pulled after 21 sessions, still had 2-3 sessions in them but I was due another track day and saw a tiny bit of blistering on the front inners (-3.0 camber, 0.05 degrees positive toe) that I'm 99% sure was from overdriving them a few times.

I haven't tried the new ToyoR, but a friend did a back to back with the RR vs the R and at least we have some preliminary feedback.

They were 2-3 seconds faster around a 2 min track, and corded after the first day. I hope the cording was due to the insane heat and a track that is hard on tires (PIRC), but we'll have to wait and see.
It would be nice if this tire were almost as fast as a R7 for half the price.
We were running new Toyo RRs, on a different car than our friend, and corded them after 2 days.

Hmmm, interesting... I assume your friend had an appropriate amount of camber?

This is from yesterday at Buttonwillow CCW1 Configuration, chasing a guy in a 911 GT3 on Pirelli slicks. Super nice guy, awesome car. F80 felt like a missile in the early morning sessions when it was cool out.
