Just found out the price from BMW for the 640M Winter Wheel Package.

The full set including TPMS and Continental WinterContact Tires is $2,738 + tax.

Which dealer told you this? I actually called a local dealer today, who said there was still no information available.

I was actually able to place my order today with BMW Devon Hill (just outside Philadelphia).

Specs and pricing were released by BMW this afternoon.

Ordered my 18" set today. Dealer required payment in full. Order requires 4-6 weeks because it's a special order from Germany. Not surprisingly.

The sales manager told me the initial order for BMW North America is only 48 sets. Not sure about further allocation. In other words, if you're interested get your order in now!!

I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by the price. When I've checked on BMW factory wheel and tire sets in the past, they were always $4000 or more. I think $2750 is pretty reasonable for factory wheels, Conti tires, TMPS and wheel bolts, as well as //M badges for the wheels and the center caps. Still a little more than Tire Rack, but at least in the ballpark.

Pictures and fitment comments to follow when they arrive.

Is there a part number or any other information about this set? All the dealers in my area still say that BMW has not released any information.

The set I ordered were BMW style 640M with Continental Winter Contact tires. Prices incudes TPMS sensors.

My dealer said he received an internal BMW bulletin within the last few days with all the relevant info. Every dealer should have it. Keep escalating until you find someone who knows about it.

What is the benefit of buying all new wheels for the winter tires instead of just the tires themselves? Is it too help preserve the summer wheels? Or to make it easier to switch? thanks.

In my opinion (and I'm no expert) I find it better to have a winter 'set' of wheels as it:

a) makes it easier to switch over in the winter
b) keeps your original summer 'set' in good shape as you are not using them in the winter months and
c) allows you have a different wheel configuration for winter driving - i.e. you may not want a narrower wheel which will provide better traction in the snow.

Also, continually changing the tires on the rims repeatedly never seems like a good idea as it seems to be hard on the rims and I'm not sure it is great for the tires to be mounted & un-mounted regularly.

I just spoke to my dealer, and I can order the 18" for about the same price mentioned above. However, the 19" are not yet available for order.

Does anyone have a sense for how long that is likely to be? I do very little driving in the actual snow, so I would prefer the 19". However, I don't want wait to long and risk the cold temperatures without having the winter tires. Also do you think the price would be significantly higher than the price for the 18"? thank you.

Ordered the 18" set today for $2,701 + tax. They said 4-6 weeks, but did not yet require payment or a deposit. They will store and change the wheels 2x a year for no (additional) cost for the life of the tires.

Saw you bought the 18" already. Yes, the 19" set is significantly more expensive. About 1,1k usd - at least in europe. I envy your price for the 640M btw. The sets costs the equivalent of 3550 usd here

After reading this thread yesterday, I rang parts department at my dealer and they weren't overly helpful. I was told the front wheels were around $660 each, but he couldn't find any information on the rear set. He also said they were in the system, but that he couldn't even place an order because there was no availability on his screen. Not sure if I understood this party correctly or not, but what I gathered was that for whatever the reason, he couldn't order them for me at this time. He said they usually can start getting them in October and by late January they are no longer available. Those of you that placed orders - are they "real orders" or is this akin to placing a deposit for an M3 before allocations were even announced?

Is anybody fitting winter tires on their stock 18's, because I was thinking of that? Will you use the same winter size tires as the summers are on the stock wheels? I was thinking of getting the Nokian R2's (I currently live in Kassel Germany and don't know what winters are like here, but back kn Finland I had the same tires on the RS5 and they worked great)

BMW is selling winter sets that are 255/40/18 square on the 640m wheels, which are 8.5 and 9.0 inches wide. These are harrowers than the OEM summer 18"s (the 513M) which are 9.0 and 10.0 inches wide.

Tirerack is recommending 245/265 for OEM 18"s, but I expect that's based on the OEM 513M 18"s at 9.0 and 10.0.

Yes, I've got 18" 513M's and am installing Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60's in 255/40/18 square. They are on closeout at Tirerack for $650... No one was willing to guarantee that they'll work, but a few folks are going in this direction and I'm rolling the dice as they were only $650.

A set popped up in the classifieds a week or two ago with tires mounted and they'll look like below.

Popped along to my dealer today to inquire about what wheel and tyre sets are available for the F80 as here in Germany its pretty much a legal requirement to have them. In the logbook they normally have these details (my Alpina had all the information about which summer and winter tyres could go on which size wheels) but the F80 had none of that, only what it was delivered with. Anyway he pulled out a little book which has all BMW models in it and which combination of wheels and tyres can be had. For the F80 it was the 640M (18") or 641M (19") with 255/40R18 99V (8.5x18 front and 9x18 rear) or 255/35R19 96V Continental Winter Contact TS830P tyres.
