Well a lot of people are using spacers for their winter setup where they already have a set of good wheels and don't like WASTING money, weight and friction isn't a big issue when driving in the winter. it doesn't matter if you can "afford" a $62K car, it is stupid to spend money if you don't need to. We have obamacare taxes on capital gains because of that logic (if you make lots of money and have enough to invest in stocks, then whats another 3.8% tax to pay for other people's health insurance, you can afford it...).

You'd be surprised - they are pretty popular actually. Especially with the E9x, I like the look of the gun metal gray wheel. I actually have two sets in fact - one for winter, one for summer. It was the same with my E46 - one set of stock 18s for winter, one for summer.

I have mixed feeling about the F8x 18" wheel, but I'll probably end up going with them for winters at least, and possibly for summers too.

+18 offset (in front).....nicely done. dont know about rears though. maybe he can chime in..

18s on the new body would look tiny thought....on the next car the 19s will be the new 18s....and you know ppl are going to roll on 20s and maybe even 21s.....can we get a DONK M4?

So, which after-market wheels in 19s will work as a direct replacement? I looked VMR 710s and only the rear ones will work (19x10/38) - none of the fronts are close enough to the OE fitment.

That, plus people like to achieve a certain look, and most manufacturers that don't make custom wheels only produce wheels in a limited number of sizes/offsets. BBS, for example, only made limited offsets for the 19" LM; 2 for the front and one for the rear if I remember correctly. Using a spacer was the only way to achieve a specific look because even the most aggressive rear wheel offset offered was too inset on an E46/E9X M3 (..at least for my taste; I wanted a flush look). I know people who track religiously and use spacers. No harm, no foul!

Wouldn't you rather pay $1,200, then use the tires on the HREs and maybe sell the stock wheels to offset some of the HRE cost?

Otherwise you will need both wheels and tires replaced.

Chances are ill run wider than stock tires. I need to keep the stock wheels for when i turn the lease in. Then ill sell the HRE or put them on my newer M4. I ran 275 front and 295 rear on my e90.

It's a wash at that point really. Save the $1200, buy the HRE's, and sell the 18's to somebody who ordered 19's and wants winter wheels (..or a set to run at the track, or, or, or....).

I am considering an M4 and possibly to reuse my TE37s (9.5x19 +22 front, 10.5x19 +22 rear). Based on the stock M4 offsets, the TE37s will be more aggressive by 13mm front and 24mm rear. Anyone think this will work or is it too aggressive?

See below. If someone invested $8,500 in some FI, or $4,000 in some RAC wheels, it would be nice to be able to use them again... especially since there is no RAC wheel for the F8x M3.

People like GTS-R who aleady have a set of really nice wheels.
Also, people who actually track their cars. Choices for 19" track tires is very limited compared to 18" choices.

Could you shed some light on this. There seems to be confusion on which winter wheel is the 18" and which is the 19"

This current thread states that the 641M is the 19" and that the 640M is the 18". Yet, in this thread, the white M4 equipped with CCB (yellow callipers) is shod with wheels that are pictured as the 640M .

I can only conclude that the wheel pictured as the 640M is the 19" wheel.

Further, only going by "feel", the wheel pictured as the 640M looks more like a 19" one and the one picture as the 641M looks more like a 18" one (I know, very subjective )

Yea... I also suspect that the 640M is the 19" wheel. I think its a technical typo from within BMW. See the picture I have posted is not really suppose to be released to the public. Normally BMW checks and double checks technical things like the wheel images to part numbers - when they are ready to release the ordering info. That has not happened - yet. So I think in time... we will know for sure.

What is the inner and outer clearance? Maybe there will be room to install a more aggressive wheel maybe not. How aggressive?

It's interesting to know the OEM wheel offsets and I guess, based on past experience, there is probably 15mm of outer clearance. But we won't know until someone has the car on hand.

Possibly. Also for those who really like the 641M style but don't want to go thinner in the rear the Volk G25 look similar imo and are extremely light. Lightest 19s I know of outside of FIs
