has anyone tried to retro fit wireless charging in front of shifter?

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Car-...946970621.html

something like this is done for the F30s, could this be done on the F80 if we remove that flap that's there now?

would like it to be oem looking, but not under the arm rest which I use to store stuff (and would def forget my phone often there)

You need the F30 LCI center console for this to work.

Would that console be just the cup holder section or a lot more? Thanks!!

I guess the F30 LCI center console is just like the F80?

Also, swap out your OEM wireless charger with P/N 51169227902 so you can actually store things.

The center console that comes standard in the F30 is different than the standard one in the F80. However, the differences are cosmetic for the most part. Since both cars are based on the same chassis, the center console pieces should be interchangeable. RealOEM will show you the different part numbers for the different center console variants. You may have to look them up under both the F30 and F80 since RealOEM only shows parts available for the model you are searching under, even if other parts will fit. Good luck.

The knee rest in the F8x is attached to this part so you give that up if switching to the F30 LCI Trim.

The big question for me is whether the knee pad can be detached and moved to the F3x LCI console. I have full leather so my knee pad is leather and I'd hate to give that up.

As shown above, F3x does not have knee pad, leather or otherwise.

Knee pad is attached by 4 rivets (similar to some parts attached to the door trim).

One could carefully drill out the rivets and re-attach with screws.

While this information is all good it's still not answering the OP's question. You can use the wireless charger in the eBay link without needing to swap to the F30 center console...

Actually you are incorrect.

As the photo in the link shows, the unit is made for the BMW F30 LCI Trim.

Clearly you didn’t look as it’s not even an eBay link.

The non-LCI console trim must be hacked for this LCI pad to be installed, is what you really want to say.

Things can fit cross-platform ya' know I guess my post with the picture of the F80 console with the same wireless charger still makes me incorrect, though.

If by hacked you mean removing the lid like the OP originally asked about - sure "hack" away.

So out of curiosity, how stable is the phone in that spot during everyday "spirited" driving that M car enthusiasts are known for?

What he fails to tell you is the area for the standard F30/F8x where this mounting would go is 2 5/16" deep while the LCI Trim is 2 13/16" - a half of inch difference which is considerable for grip if you measure the width of your phone.

Also, the LCI tray is sunken in which gives more security to the phone than raising it up on the standard F30/F8x Trim where it essentially is hanging on a pivot.

But as you can see, it's not worth trying to have a discussion with him.

Fine so far! The grip mat is actually very stout. I’ve been able to fit an iPhone X, XS Max, and a newer Samsung with no issues. It’s fast charge as well.

I have it installed, use it, and am happy with it. I post from first hand experience with the product and the install versus someone being a keyboard warrior with measurements.

It looks great! How much modification if any did you have to do? Or was it as easy as just removing the lid?

Why didn't you just post a DIY showing how you installed this?

Didn't think a DIY was needed? Take lid off and put charger in its place.

Very timely thread. Trying to decide between this and SIGHILL Dock. Twice the price but easily installed and removable. This one looks a little more OEM though.
