TE37SL center cap adapters just... don't fit

I'm not sure why i'm surprised by this after really thinking about it and looking at them rationally, but there's literally no room on these wheels for the center cap adapters to work correctly.

The f/r hubs just extend into the space where the adapters would sit, so what are my options here?

Basically the only valid option I can think of is to run some small spacers and give them room to sit. I don't know that I have enough room in the rear though, and honestly at this point i'm tired of spending money to have center caps lol.

Other than that, I guess I can always just try to sell all this stuff and then wire brush/paint the hub centers black. I'd much rather have center caps tbh, but I just don't see how they can work.

Wheels are 19x9.5 +21, 19x10.5 +35.

Just get something designed and 3D printed to fit properly.

When I had my SLs I plasti dipped those centers black and then cleared them. Looked better than the rusted hubs sticking out. I don't think I've ever seen an F80 with SLs and center caps that fit but YMMV.

Yeah that's probably what I need to do here. Doesn't seem like it's impossible to do.

Definitely on my to-do list now once I finish all the flex-fueling stuff now. Rusty hubs aren't a great look poking out through these wheels

Haha I wish! I guess i'm just a little caught off guard by the situation and assumed everything would be alright when it should be been obvious that it wasn't going to fit lol.

I used to work for a company that sold Volks and had connections with Mackin Industries (main distributor for Volks / Rays in North America). Mackin Industries informed me that SLs aren't compatible with centercaps. There's ways people made them work but they weren't easy

Yeah that's why they require adapter rings to fit standard caps. Unfortunately the F8X hubs just aren't compatible with this sort of setup.

I had just enough space for the cap and ring.

Ok cool thanks, where/what sort of rubber ring did you end up using for this? This solution sounds perfectly fine in my book

I bought some rubber clamps used for plumbing at home depot that matched the right size and cut them to the correct thickness, here is a pic from the back.

Sorry a newb to TEs, so SL's requires some work to make the center caps fit. While Ultra M spec fits center caps. Is that true? Thanks

Saga/Ultra will fit center caps with no adapters.

Yep unfortunately. That's what I posting this thread about. The way the SL's fit and the design of the F8X hubs - the adapters don't have space to fit at all.

That's a total bummer. I see where the hub comes out too much for the adapter to fit. Would dremeling out the areas where the hub sticks out work?

Potentially could, but I wouldn't want to modify the hubs at all. I ended up going with the solution that @TD-F80 came up with. I fit the fronts easily, but need to spend a little more time getting the rears to really sit well.

Wheels look a lot better and more finished with the caps imo.

Don't know if anyone found a response to this but I fit center caps on my SLs on my f82. Had a shop with a lathe shave the back of the adapters to make them fit. If you're in the DC area; RRT will do it.

That's helpful to know. I ended up throwing some small spacers on the front wheels anyway, so my fronts work but my rears are still using the "rubber gasket" method. Many thousands of miles they're still holding strong, but I really should just get them machined down.
