Car Service Ramps or Stands recommendations


What's going on guys?

I would some input regarding service ramps or stands. Something basic to do most maintenance, swap exhaust systems, DPs, etc.

I'm aware there are a ton out there, but I would love some input on what you guys consider SAFE and RELIABLE !

I have had the 56" race ramps for years and they are perfect for lower cars like the M3/4. They are on the expensive side but they will last a lifetime.

I also have race ramps. After lowering with the lip I needed to buy the extensions to drive up them from the front. But they're the best. So light too.

If you don't mind spending a bit more cash.... QuickJack. Definitely one of my better tool investments over the years...

56” race ramps plus some cheap extenders from Amazon if you are lowered. Works pretty flawlessly. Also have an AC Hydraulic jack in case I need to get the wheels off and a pair of Esco jackstands.

Any recommendations for a race ramp that will clear M4. It still stock and not lowered. Do i need the extenders? Which kind to get the 56 or 67"? Thanks appreciated much.

I used standard jack stands for years. Pain in the ass and time consuming to get most cars up on all four. Sometimes required beveled planks to get the car high enough to get even a low-profile jack under the front. Doesn't really get the car up high enough, but enough to do oil changes and you can do brake work.

Then I bought Race Ramps and they were great for changing oil. I installed my MPE by driving the car in reverse onto the ramps. Can't do brake/wheel work. Kind of a pain to store.

Then I bought QuickJacks! Total game changer! I can get the whole car 22" up in the air in 10 minutes starting from backing the car out of the garage. Can do oil changes, brake /wheel work, pretty much anything that doesn't require side access to the underside, but plenty of room to access the middle of the car from the front or back. I wish I'd bought them years ago. Costco sometimes has the BL-5000SLX on sale, but at a higher price than when I bought them for $999.99 and free shipping. Works for both the M3/M4 and the Z4 M Roadster.

I was going to write essentially the same post, so I'll just add to this one.

I went through the same progression and have found that the QuickJack is ultimately the best solution out there (from a cost and functionality perspective). I got the BL-5000EXT, and although it's longer it works for short wheelbase cars. But with the longer version you have more flexibility for other types of cars. I use mine for literally all of my cars including SUVs with the SUV adapters. Although the manufacturer stress tested these past their marked load ratings, I'd always recommend getting capacities well above your needs.

If it is too cost prohibitive, I'd say Race ramps with the rear wheel cribs are a good solution for getting the entire car in the air. Just keep in mind you won't have the ability to service brakes/suspension.
