I think it looks really good. Much better than the M340i and C43. But the dated powertrain and transmission is a dealbreaker.

TRD And Modellista Have Their Way With The 2021 Lexus IS

Quote:
The facelifted 2021 Lexus IS was unveiled in June and already TRD and Modellista are offering styling upgrades.

Starting with TRD, it has launched a new front splitter that can be finished in black or painted body color. As standard, we think the updated IS looks pretty aggressive, but this new splitter makes it even more striking.

Elsewhere, TRD has designed aerodynamic wing mirror covers, new side skirts, a sports muffler and a custom rear diffuser.

TRD is also offering unique 20-inch forged aluminum wheels alongside a performance damper and new bracing. Those interested in the TRD parts can check them out in the online configurator.

As for Modellista, its parts are a little more subtle. At the front, there are new splitter add-ons that give the car some added style without being as eye-catching as the TRD splitter. Other parts include extended side skirts, a custom body-colored diffuser, a rear lip spoiler and a distinctive set of wheels.

In late September, Lexus confirmed that the 2021 IS will start at $39,000 in the U.S. The rear-wheel drive IS 300 is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 241 hp, whereas the all-wheel drive version gets a 260 hp 3.5-liter V6 and the range-topping IS 350 a 3.5-liter V6 pumping out 311 hp.

I'm surprise Nike hasn't sued them for the swoosh leds ha ha. Looks decent though as I've grown to accept and even like the big predator grille.

Been seeing a commercial with this car in it blasted every 20 minutes. What makes it sad is that in one spot the lighting hides that terrible style line in front of the rear wheel, and it looks a million times better. Almost like a real quarter blister flare.

I think it looks nice but it's sloooooow.

However, most Lexus fanboys are stating "who cares about speed??!? It will last forever!!"

I'm holding out hope for the IS-F/500. This car is in desperate need of a motor.

Exactly! And you would think Lexus could do much better in this regards.

■ November "F model" debuts one after another! Lexus "IS F / LS F / LC F"

Lexus high-performance model, sports model bearing the name of "F" appears one after another. The F model not only has power-ups, but also has chassis performance commensurate with its power.

The IS F will be revived in a way that replaces the already discontinued GS F. The domestic D-segment sports model surpasses the Skyline 400R

First of all, "IS F" set in the previous IS will be revived. The base "IS" has just implemented the Big Maichen, but the IS F will be fully revived based on that Maichen model. The power train is the V8, 5L DOHC installed in the "RC F", which delivers 481ps / 54.6kgm.

...with an engine that's been out for 10 years? Not necessarily a bad thing since it's a good engine, and it'll be unique due to V8 NA layout, but man these guys do not push the boundaries very often do they. Still though, that's actually one of the reasons I daily a Toyota Tundra.

P.S. I got to see one of these in person. I was personally a fan of the way they looked in pictures, but the rear end in person is really weird. Proportions are just all over the map, the trunk looks like a giant forehead. Front did look good though.

I was just driving next to the car, so maybe I'll stop by Lexus dealership and check it out properly.

At best, this is highly suspect. The LC F has widely been reported to have been canceled, along with the V8 that was to power it.

None of this is surprising given the direction the industry is headed. These products would have had short lifespans. Perhaps Lexus intends to rejuvenate the F brand in the future with hybrid and electric vehicles, but it is obvious that they are not going to do it with V8 engines.

Agreed about LC-F being canned, but I can see this IS-F getting the NA V8 as a fairwell. But definitely if they revive the F line, I'm going to assume they'll just soup up the V6TT or add electrification.

Maybe. But there has been speculation to that effect for a long time, yet there's little evidence, and no thoroughly convincing evidence, that such a car is actually on the way.

Certainly the above article is doing nothing to add credibility to those rumors by hyping this as some big event coming in November with three new products. It's clickbait.

Our inside man over on the MKV forum hinted that the LC-F project is still a go. It was just delayed because of Covid.

The same individual that was behind some of the other Supra rumors that didn't pan out, such as the CGI block, other engine changes that would be unique vs. the Z4 (or any other B58), manual transmissions, etc., yeah?

Prevailing wisdom tells me that Toyota has shifted funds that were allocated toward brand new V8 engines and performance cars into fighting off disruption in the EV market. We are in the twilight years of high displacement gasoline performance vehicles, and it's just not strategically viable to jump onto this slowly sinking ship.

The rumor about the CGI was actually started by one of Tada's friend, he just shared the IG link. Don't think he ever said a manual was coming anytime soon, but rather they were testing a manual and this was even confirmed in the interviews.

You could be right, we shall see.

Oh I agree! Their engines are ancient but anything is better than that damn 3.5L V6 they have been using since 2007!

This is a lease special car, kind of like the 5 series and 3 series. Most people who are getting this don't care about the engine, they just like the refresh and it'll tap into all the people re-upping their leases and have no plans to stray from Lexus.

Imo it looks great. Better than a c class, A4, and 3 series but only in the F sport trim. Looks a little weird in the base trim, but so do the aforementioned competitors cars. I still like the IS interior, doesn't need a bunch of tablets everywhere. Lexus is always behind other competitors in the engine department but that's bc they are known for reliability. Why give that reputation up for a car that's a lease special. If they stuck a 400 hp turbo in this thing would anyone really care? It would get disregarded bc it's not extreme enough to be an m3 competitor. It'll compete with a 340i, S4, etc but how many people are really buying those cars, and how many of those will leave BMW/Audi for the IS? I see a crapload of ISs around bc the formula works and Lexus does have a decent market share with the IS.

This was a smart play for Lexus. Instead of wasting money on developing an entirely new car, they can put their R&D into going fully electric and, hopefully, consolidate the model lineup and keep a couple of ICE enthusiasts models around (e.g. ISF, RCF, maybe LC).
