Manual transmission fluid DIY guide?

Tried searching, didn't find anything

Is there a DIY guide to changing the 6MT transmission fluid on the F8X?

I'd like to do it myself since the maintenance doesn't cover it. Thanks in advance

I saw that post when searching, I'm more interested in a real DIY with pictures/tools/torque settings etc.

The "let me google that for you" link is a little annoying...

Did you actually read the attached docs to this post http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...0&postcount=10 ?

The only picture is there, it's too two hex plugs and the torque doc is also attached. I understand it's not a step by step detailed real life pics. One word of caution, if those two docs are not enough, I nicely and humbly recommend that you don't do the DIY.

I wonder why BMW requires the 6MT fluid change on the M5 and M6, but not the other M cars.

Does the M3/M4 use the same transmission as the M5 and M6? Also, do they use the same transmission fluid?

check the Transmission Designations doc. In any case, the only S55 entry is the "K transmission for S55", so the torque for both drain and fill plug is 43+-3 Nm.

The S55 6MT is the ZF GS6-45BZ K designation, but always check the part using realoem or your VIN in Rheingold.

This. Except I recommend removing the fill one first to ensure it can be removed. I will say from when I had mine up on a lift there is a cover plate over the transmission you will need to remove in order to access the transmission. You'll also need a fluid transfer pump to get the new fluid back in.

Yep, good advice and common sense, I mentionned it in the other thread. Funny the BMW doc doesn't list the order...

On my previous BMW, I modded the transmission fluid bottle with a 1/4" flexible pipe and used gravity as a "fluid transfer pump"

I had luck getting the dealer to change it at my 1200 mile service. If you can give them a good reason to do it under warranty they normally will oblige. I commented that the shifting felt notchy and would occasionally stick while going into gear. The SA had the fluid changed with no further issue. It doesn't hurt to ask and since we have M cars it seems the dealers are more inclined to make us happy.

Has anyone actually done this job themselves? I just did my car at 41k and was wondering if I was filling it properly. I could only get 1.4L in not sure if that is right. Would appreciate any feedback.

If it started to spill out of the fill hole then you should be good.

Thank you for the advice. Yes it did and I had the car as level as possible but I got worried since all the manuals called for 1.6L fill.
