40-50 mph vibration not under braking? Have you tried road force balancing?

The judder is only while braking between 40-50mph, but no I haven't tried road force balancing the wheels/tires (yet).

Worth a shot, I'd say. If out of balance somewhat strange that it'd only happen under braking, but maybe just more perceptible then. This is a common out of balance speed range and our cars are very sensitive in this area.

Tell the shop you need maximum precision and you'll buy the tech lunch if he solves.

Noted!

It's just odd that whenever they replace the rotors/pads, everything is fine and perfectly smooth for anywhere between 500-1,500 miles. Seems like if something was out of balance or off, it would be there no matter what. But I'm far from an expert mechanic so who knows.

Agree, but it's also odd that a brake deposit type of issue would only be perceived in a very specific speed range. And if brake components have been swapped out in full, then I'd want to rule out the basics like balancing. I have had wheels slightly out of balance and vibration in the exact speed range you indicate.

I'm not up to speed on this whole thread and your experience -- you've tried a bedding procedure? https://www.zeckhausen.com/catalog/i...Path=6446_6443

Also true. Nothing about this entire scenario makes sense so I definitely can't rule anything out.

I have tried bedding them in yeah when they've replaced them initially each time. Once the judder came back, I'd try braking hard while cold to see if I could clean off any deposits but it didn't work with the stock pads. I swapped out for some Akebono ceramic pads a few months back and the judder got less pronounced but still there between 40-50.

I can feel some SLIGHT pulsing at lower speeds (<10mph) while braking but it's so faint that it's hard to tell if it's the pads or just the road. My next step was to buy some DS1.11's and throw them on for a few days to really clean up the rotors and see if the problem goes away.

Sounds like I'm adding road force balancing to my list now too though.

Does sound like a brake issue. Check out from post #658 here. Sandpaper might be worth a shot, cheap! https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...659397&page=30

And here's subsequent feedback from the same member on the ferodos https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...&postcount=832

good luck. Brake and vibration issues suck.

I saw the sandpaper thing yeah, guess I'll give that a try as I'm swapping on the Ferodos!

I actually PM'ed swagon the other day asking if his issues ever came back after throwing the Ferodo's on. So far so good for him so fingers crossed that fixes mine as well.

I also am having this same issue as everyone. In august BMW replaced all four corners and the issue was gone but now about 2,500 miles later the issue is back and my warranty expired.

I swapped to PowerStop Carbon Fiber pads a month ago and stripped the rotors down with a nylon wheel and it still juddered. I just replaced my driver side hub on Friday because it felt like there was a little bit of play in it and it feels exactly the same.

Iím curious if anyone had a caliper rebuilt or replaced through this? I wonder if they are dragging and causing the rotor to take on additional heat and potentially warp.

michaelalex17 had his calipers rebuilt among other things and I believe his judder is still gone (I hope anyway).

So got back the F80 after the 3rd visit. They replaced the front left wheel (competition wheel) as they said it wasnít mating true/flat to the hub.

New rotors and pads again as well.

500 miles in and things feel good ...fingers crossed.

Snow is down and planning to take it in for a tune, downpipes, intake next. Assuming it makes it a few thousand miles with the braking shudder gone.

We will see...

Any idea how they were able to determine that the wheel wasn't mating to the hub fully?

A few of us have tossed around that idea as well because we all have re-finished wheels (previous owner had mine done on the passenger side...which is odd because he had the wheel/tire warranty from BMW so I figured they would've just replaced the wheels).

I haven't really been interested in spending the money on new wheels/tires but maybe I need to

Welp, I guess I'll let y'all know if it's my wheels. I ordered a set of Richland Forged GT4's today (should be here in February). I'd been debating on wheels since I got the car 15 months ago due to the 2 re-finished ones being slightly lighter/brighter than the 2 originals and it bothered me daily.

So between those and the DS1.11's let's hope it fixes the problem.

I have no idea how it's possible to both hate and love something so much but this car has found a way
