Interesting... perhaps it is a software update issue (e.g., the actual modules/DME etc.)?

Could be that unless you are fully current vehicle software wise, you are limited to an older idrive version?

That's what showed up for me too. For my MY2015 F80. It seems to have updated to a newer version, just not sure if its the actual "latest".

Just to add more confusion:

I have a 2016 M4 build date April 2016 for the USA.

My Media is at MB-001.048.003, Telephone is at TB-001.048.003.

I check the update website fairly regularly and this is the first time it showed an update available. The available files included 1803_en-gb_BA_1803_ZBA_KISU_NBTevo_en-gb.pdf and UPD09031.bin.

The car allowed the update and after the update the Media and Telephone are the same, but it added "Add-on: HB-001.061.023". I have no idea what this is for and none of the software versions in the PDF are the same as what I had/have.

I think that when people are talking about software updates, it would be helpful to specify the following:

• Model Year
• Model
• Build date
• Country of residence

Without this info, it's like comparing apples to oranges. If you're using the Bimmerpost app and not displaying signature, none of this info is visible to other posters.

I just checked, it's still downloading the same file so no point trying! What the hell is going on many of us reported this to BMW Genius, this is so unprofessional from BMW to be giving customers files that do not correspond with the version of iDrive they have after they check with their vehicle's VIN

Genius told me that dealers have other ways to update the software for me other than using a USB. When I called the dealer they said BMW is developing a new bulletin update for fix the iPhone X issues.

I tried again with UPD09031.bin on my 2016 F82 and got the message "Current software is already installed. No update necessary."

So it updated your MB/TB/HB to 001.061.023 but it only added the HB for me.
My MB/TB was already at 001.048.003, higher than yours, but it didn't update that. Go figure.

I wonder if this is a NBT vs NBT Evo update difference. The NBT headhunt, which came in 2015 and 2016 MY cars is different hardware than the NBT Evo units that come in 2017 and 2018 MY cars. It seems like 2016 and older cars with older software appear to accept the posted update.....

The only update available (UPD09031) is not compatible with my 2018 M4 ZCP.

Current versions are:

Telephone: TB-005.010.002
Media: MB-005.010.002

Genius told me when updating from USB, the message says software was incompatible, I already have the same software or newer software, which doesn't make sense... Mine still says incompatible (2018 M3)

Yeah the BMW Genius told me the same thing. Even though I explained that this doesn't make any sense since I am entering my vehicle's VIN in the BMW Software update system so it should know what software I have and is still offering me an update which doesn't apply.

These people just don't wanna work! He could easily send this concern especially that it came from many people to the responsible department to have it fixed.

It doesn't make ANY sense that my Wife's 2017 X5 which has iDrive 5 is being offered the exact same file/update as my 2018 M4 which has iDrive 6

I got the update installed this morning. Could it have anything to do with where in the filesystem tree you place the .bin file? I couldn't remember if it had to be in a specific place or not so I placed a copy on the root of the drive and in a folder called BMW. I'm not sure if that's worth trying or not but the update pushed through for me, took about three minutes to complete. 2017 ZCP F80. Here's the updated versions:

Telephone: TB-003.011.023
HMI: HB-005.003.022

Does anyone know what HMI is? Hardware Media Interface or something maybe?

Thanks for the tip. I will try this again after placing it in a folder called BMW and see if it works but in the past I just had to place the update file in the root of the USB Drive

Same issue! Would restoring back to Factory Settings solve the problem? Has anyone tried it? You'd think BMW new what they were updating and be clear on how to perform the process if indeed there is another method! What a let down!

Tried UPD09031.bin in a MY2015 M4 with build date 2014-12 in Canada, BUT my MN/TN is 003.003.001 (I-step 59.4). Does anyone know if there's anything newer for 2015s? 2015s only get UPD05074.bin, and right now even with 003.003.001, I get a lot of cutting out when streaming over USB and Bluetooth.
