Looks great. Can't really say a bad word about it... the hood is a little busy and that color isn't for me... and I usually like the 4dr version better when available (stupid e46! ).

Definitely a winner. "Looks" heavy if this thing is a hundred pounds lighter than the e92 M3 this will be a real win.

Great job. The development of these cars keeps me checking e90post every day!!

Anyone think the M4 will come with that CF front lip as standard? I bet it will be an option.

everything is looking good from my opinion except two things:

- M4 hips don't look wide enough. they just dont look aggressive. the 1M has more aggressive hips IMO. I would personally prefer the upcoming M3 hips in comparison. this is what i call Hips ....

- the wheels are not as concave as they should be. having concave wheels give more width and stance for the car. these look quite flat. aftermarket would solve this issue though

They aren't obvious, that was the wrong word choice but in the comparison pictures at least you can tell that the front is flared. The rear you can not.

Anyways, some more renders:

I am confident the car will look much better in person. I'm a bit luke warm on the car overall. Some thoughts:
  • The car less, less plastic cover parts, are not enough of a departure from the current E92 M3. AS noted earlier a much smaller departure than the E92 compared to E46.
  • The front and rear bumper covers are simply way too busy. They are also way to similar to the 435i M Sport, especially the front, it is virtually identical.
  • The front air curtains are indeed functional although it is highly unlikely that the rears are. They are just for "visual design continuity".
  • The new kidney grilles and front lights as well as the way they blend together are gorgeous. IMHO, though, the kidney grilles should not have any chrome/silver, just black.
  • Although the same on the base 435i, I really like the nearly vertical section along the side of the hood near the A-pillar.
  • The rear fender flares are more pronounced and have a nod to the old E30 M3 with their upper crease line.
  • Will need to replace those hideous integrated reflectors in the rear bumper cover with body color matched ones.
  • The side vents are not carbon fiber (someone claimed they were).
  • The muffler tips are not carbon fiber they are stainless steel with a busy, cosmetic carbon fiber cover tube added. This is not BMWs function over form philosophy. This is poseur crap. Sorry, harsh but true.
  • I'm not digging the wheels at all, but like with the E92 M3 the production offering was different than the concept car.
  • They mention carbon fiber splitter, roof and diffuser. There better be heck of a lot more carbon fiber to achieve some significant (promised) weight loss.
  • //M colored stripes on the CF roof? Please tell me this isn't so...
  • Last but not least, I car about power, weight, steering feel and turbo lag or lack thereof more than any of the aesthetics revealed here.

I'm happy to see that BMW has corrected its course on this one. The M4 was a pivotal moment for them. It could have gone either direction - a descent into the boilerplate world of Mercedes AMG, or a re-emergence of the enthusiast philosophy that embodied the e30 M3.

Aesthetically, I'm highly impressed with the M4 concept. We've all had (and have) our concerns about the sea-change in M philosophy that left behind natural aspiration for forced induction. I still have major reservations about that... But am somewhat reassured by BMW's strong aesthetic showing here, that maybe the engine might come out a winner too. Maybe their focus on the enthusiast will carry over to their engine work. I reserve judgment for those stats.

For me, the jury is still out. Even with the strongest aesthetic showing, a failure to capture enthusiasts in the engine and performance department might be the final straw and exodus for long time M enthusiasts like all of us.

Here is the information i look forward to knowing :
  • engine performance figures - 0-60, 0-100, etc.
  • transmission details
  • total weight
  • base price and whether all the aesthetic items we see on the concept will be standard or will be optional "M-sport" add ons (for more money)
  • fuel consumption (not that I care that much)
  • colors offered
  • I want to see MORE PICTURES of the Rear Trunk !

For now, I'm thrilled with this Concept debut. It looks gorgeous. And I'm hopeful that their engine showing matches the genius of their design showing. Beautiful.

Performance is a no-brainer - it will beat the E9x M3 in every measure.

Weight - I really hope they were able to make significant gains here, and get down to E46 M3 levels

My biggest worry is the intangibles...

Steering feel
Handling precision
Engine/exhaust noise

If you read any review of past M3s, it's these things that really put this car in a class by itself. I have faith in the M engineers that they're up to the task, but corporate and governmental restrictions are always making their jobs harder.

Looking forward to the first drives & tests.

they are actually pretty obvious if you look at the headlights.... you'll see on the M the bodywork extends out past the headlights so the lights are almost set back in the bodywork.

man, you are blowing me away with these responses. No Motorsport history? Obviously! The 4 series hasn't even hit market yet, what do you expect? What about the decades of racing heritage that dictates the M Brand? I suppose that doesn't count as well?

I understand you are trolling and purposely trying to stir things up, but at least its entertaining to see how moronic some posts can be

Sure it will, that is a given, but that is not the car that is needs to compete against for sales. Many lower priced American cars (yes with a bit less luxury, fit and quality) will probably be faster in most contests. It is also getting closer and closer to competing against the 911, both officially and unofficially. It will have to be better than the next gen AMG and S/RS cars as well.

The black M4 testmule in the spy photos on this site seems to have wider fender flares in the back.
Wide fender flares are nice.

Nice...but very little flare and the rear bumper looks just like the m performance one for the 435i. Even the front does!

E30 M3 wasn't winning any DTM championships BEFORE it was introduced either...

I'll guess we'll see the M4 in the DTM next year though

History isn't just about what happened 10-20-30 years ago, it's being made every day... BMW M has motorsport history. Some models, like the M5, have never been a big motorsport participant. The M4 is a new model. The 1M was a new model. I applaud innovation and progress

BTW. I used the wrong wording re the rear wheel arches. It's not obvious that they are wider They might be, and certainly looks that way from certain angles. But far from as obvious as I thought

Sorry. I'm just not impressed by this car aesthetically or technically. I've had an e36, e46, and e90. This car seems like a compromise. But I guess any opinion other than 'I love it' is trolling and moronic. You win. Enjoy your M4. I think I'll be stepping up to a Porsche next time. Which won't be that big of a jump based on BMWs absurd pricing lately.
