Sorry, guess I was mistaken. I feel the love you're spreading. So, it's more of a tough love that you deliver with a firm hand?

Hopefully that's not your plan for your future.
I'm not young at all and I have kids. I just don't make assumptions about situations without any evidence or any backing at all.

Making the generalization that this had to be a young kid driving this M4 is as poor as thinking all people grow up to be wise. It's just completely incorrect and idiotic to claim.
But if you were betting...

I don't deny that. I am 45 myself with 2 kids. I have never driven with the dsc off. I feel it's not worth the risk. The car is enough fun in MDM mode.

I was just saying that this thread took a wrong turn. Regardless of age you have a guy fighting for his life and here we are arguing about his age not knowing what really happened.

By the way, if it's not already been corrected in this thread, it was a M6, not a M3. Could very well be older guy driving drunk at 2 AM. Who knows. But it doesn't really matter. Hope he lives to drive another day.

Things I noticed about these sorts of news stories and threads...(aside from the helpful comments and expressions of concern):

1) The more expensive the brand, the more detailed the reporting is about it. "A BMW M3 was found overturned..." versus..."a VEHICLE was found overturned...", almost as if they're trying to highlight something
2) Side analysis to verify if the car is actually what is reported
3) Assumptions taken out of context
4) Always a comment or two about the attractiveness of the news reporter (if there's footage of the coverage)
5) Joke or two about undamaged parts for mods, tire pressure, traction control, and etc. (didn't see one in this thread...YET)

Doesn't seem to be any follow-up in the news. Regardless, hope the guy is okay, but there is still no excuse for driving recklessly/impaired.

Car can still go sideways in mdm mode. I accidentally drifted through a right turn and got really lucky there was no one around, because the rear of my car went outside my lane. Figured you already knew that, but fyi anyway

Good point on perspective. Several of my colleagues have been evacuated from their homes in Thousand Oak, so I really feel what you are saying.

Regardless of circumstance, hope driver pulls through

Yeah I have tested that on the MDM. I don’t even come close to pushing the limits on the street and am pretty careful. The point I was making was that it’s foolish to turn of DSC. MDM is there for a reason as if you need more go to the track where there is excessive runoff.

Well I am an old guy (learned to drive on a three on a tree), and the last time I was up at 2am it was because I was going the to ER for food poisoning. It is getting cold at night and Z rated tires don't exactly have the grip they would have on hot asphalt. I was once considered a pretty decent driver (did some track things), but my skills are not what they used to be, and I have nothing left to prove to anyone. Sometimes ego gets in the way of common sense, and yes it happens to old guys too.

This is a crazy thread.

First off, it appears to be an m5 or m6.

Second, you don't need MDM or DSC off for this to happen. DSC/MDM do not overcome the laws of physics. If you are traveling at a high enough rate of speed, or if you hit a curb at high speed and become airborne, DSC/MDM won't do squat. Without having a video of the incident, this is pure speculation.

Third, it doesn't matter if you are sober, intoxicated, young or old. Plenty of sober people do stuff like this (see Cars & Coffee videos gone wrong), plenty of intoxicated people wind up driving safely and not getting caught, and plenty of old people make mistakes. Etc etc.

For all we know this was a case of unintended acceleration

why do these cars have a rep for being unhinged and scary? as someone who has only ever driven very fast cars, this is the most tame 600hp car I've ever driven. the car holds the road like it's a slot car, and even when the tires spin it holds straight incredibly easy. most of the crashes I read about sound like the owners have no idea what they bought, and blame the car

Generalizations are comical, yet you throw out several silly claims of racism, infidelity and financial irresponsibility that are the result of advancing age. Insurance companies would disagree with you on the automobile safety aspect. Accidents from drivers under 23 are disproportionately high as compared to the 30 to 50 crowd.

Hoping you find peace in your quest to get under crusty people's skin. Turn that desire for conflict into love brother.
All people all growing up to be wise was actually the generalization. Those things I stated were evidence to the contrary.

old guys in this thread really bashing the fuck out of young kids. I'm 21, on my 3rd M3. First was a 500whp E46, totalled after I got rear ended waiting to turn left, by a 65 yr old. Second was a 800hp E92 that was also totalled, this time when someone decided to turn left from the middle lane when we were parallel and use the excuse that they signalled so I should have braked and let them go. 52 years old. my girlfriends 135 was totalled by a 48 year old woman who was texting. You're not a good driver because you're older. old drivers have cost me over 100000 dollars in the past 4 years

True and even though I haven't really commented on age in this thread you can't deny the fact that young kids do more dumb shit as compared to old farts when it comes to driving. It's not me saying that, just look at the insurance rates for under 25 vs over and you have your answer. The stats don't look favorably towards younger drivers.

Also curious about the 800 HP E92 M3. Is that RWHP? A ESS VT2-650 Supercharger can get it to 680-690 rwhp max.

Cheers.
