I'm getting bad wheel hop at the slightest hint of wheel spin. Seems like only the right rear. I this common with this car?

TIA

123 views and crickets. I guess everyone is hooking up pretty well then.

I get wheel hop in a straight line, sliding on corner exit. I feel like it's going to break something.

So no one else is experiencing wheel hop? Just spins and go's steady as can be?
Just trying to figure if this is normal for this car or not.

None here. I'm pretty modified though. Coilovers, full toe links, monoballs.

I experience it with MDM mode but not so much when everything is off.. I’ve launched twice at a drag strip and other than some “smoke” from whee spin, it didn’t “hop” like in MDM mode when I’m accelerating aggressively in a straight line.

Is this with traction on, MDM on, or off? Have you inspected the rear end or checked the torque on suspension bolts? Seems odd that you would be getting "hop", but the traction/stability can give you some weird sensations.

Doesn't matter. MDM, all off, Straight line, a bit of yaw, holeshot. I get wheel hop.
It's an 18 civic, all stock and been that way since mile 1 or 30 as is the case.

I haven't had it on the lift to check. I originally thought that sucks I would've thought BMW would do a better job than that, But I'm questioning that . So I asked the greater M4 community.

But if I'm the exception i'll have to take a look.

Thanks

check your car's alignment and for any damaged parts

Also, do you always try to launch in 1 place or does it happen on different roads?

If they are some small undulations in the pavement on 1 side of your favourite spot to launch, it could contribute to that

Alignment won't usually cause hop. In other cars where I've had hop (normal from factory), it was solved by locking down the subframe and diff. So it may be a prematurely worn subframe bushing.

F80 doesn't have subframe bushings, rear subframe is bolted directly metal-to-metal to the body of the car.

I also get pretty bad wheel hop with DSC fully off but haven't had a chance to lift my car up and see if I can figure out how to get rid of it. I'm only at 3k miles.

Do you get wheel hop during compression or rebound? or just on a turn? or do you mean straight line? If you mean in a straight line at WOT, yeah that’s normal

I'm with you.
Most FX owners I speak to experience wheel hop. Apparently it's normal. I hate it.

2015 M4 owner and frequent "spinner of wheels" but have never experienced this...curious about the solution though.

I get it too...the hop made a clanking sound which was the parking brake tube rubbing against drive shaft ..Dealer fixed clanking. To reduce wheel hop adjust tire pressure and induce wheel spin faster. It's pretty hard on the car so I don't attempt much anymore.

Only happens in straight line with MDM on coldish tires.

Doesn't happen with TC off.

This happens to me too with DSC/TC off, on or anything.
When I got my car, it had PSS tires with very low tread depth. It did not happen with those tires, likely because the material was harder towards the end of the tread life.

I switched to MPS4S tires, 295 in the rear (as opposed to 285 stock) and now I pretty much wheel hop any time I lose traction. When it's cold out with the summer tires on, I don't get the hop.

I had the dealership look at it when I was in for an oil change, and the shop foreman said that unfortunately its normal for these cars.

Since wheelhop happens on the limits of adhesion, as the tires are fighting to hook up versus the torque being input into them, the other solution is to add more power, so that the tires loose the fight for grip.

I do wonder if with coilovers it would go away. I was thinking of getting the bilstein damptronic coilovers.

I also have among other things, the Fall Line Steel Mono-Balls, Rear Upper Link Steel Bushings and the Dinan Suspension Link Kit. I don't have wheel hops.

I don't have coilovers but I can tell you it still happens with a slip on kit (MP HAS).

That being said, it never happens when I'm on NT01s only Super Sports or 4S.
