Anyone think it would be possible to fit the 12.3" F90 screen using the Bimmertech adapter? There's a bunch of iDrive 6 F90s that retrofitted the 12.3 so it's definitely compatible with ID6; just not sure if the 12.3 is the same physical size as the 10.25...

Last time I asked, he said he could not. I think the only option is going through Bimmertech. As I mentioned previously, Bimmertech charged me $300 for this work and it look like an hour, but the MGU screen works flawlessly. The main (if not only) reason to go with the MGU over the SCALER is if you use the native (BMW) navigation and would like to see the map content displayed in a higher resolution. Otherwise there really is no reason to get the MGU display.

I got the MGU display for $100. Thats the only reason i bought it, but its looking like its gonna cost me more than if i just spent $200 for the Scalar

I'm afraid so. With that said, kubax86 can code the MGU to the 1920x720 resolution and it will function, but the native BMW maps will not display properly. If that does not bother you because you do not use the native BMW navigation, then I suggest you ask kubax86 to do this coding instead of the more extensive job that Bimmertech does. Thanks.

Thank you for suggesting that idea. That is what i will most likely end up doing because i only use CarPlay. Do you know how much Kubax charges to code it?

I do not know exactly, but it is far less than $300. I recall CarPlay worked perfectly on the MGU after kubax86 did the basic coding but before I had to have Bimmertech do the much more extensive coding, so this is probably the right solution for you.

So I’m looking at doing this upgrade with the MGU screen. I have ID6 lite in my ‘16 and just checked the headunit is HW 2.3. Can anyone tell me if that headunit will work or will I need to upgrade that as well to 4.1.

all of them will work
you just need native iDrive 5/6 headunit

Did this upgrade the other day, does anyone have any tips for getting the two screws back in to secure the screen + adapter after the upgrade? I have full leather and so the tabs on the adapter are just a bit short and don't quite cover the holes. I have already lost one of the screws into the "pit of despair" behind the dash and right now the only thing holding the unit in place is the video cable (which, to be fair, seems quite strong, but would be concerned about getting hit in the face in the event of a head-on collision).

Exactly what I had to do with my full leather dash too. The display just needed a bit of “persuasion” to be seated properly. 🤣

Thanks to this thread I upgraded my screen to the 10.25” and had it coded. Everything is working great. Thanks for helping me find ways to spend money on the car 🤣

Glad to hear it. I love this upgrade. What display did you go with, SCALER or MGU?

I went with MGU. Not sure it really made a difference as I use CarPlay most of the time but the native map does look good when I have that displayed.

Nice! I am pretty sure the MGU's higher resolution only makes a difference when displaying the native maps. CarPlay looks the same either way, I believe.

I started with Kubax as I thought in conversation he could code the MGU but I was mistaken. He did all the other coding for the head unit and screen. I tried to live with the screen at a lower resolution but I couldn’t 🤣 so I had BimmerTech finish the coding.

$300 later!!!

That said, kubax86 has since done other coding for me and he said that what BimmerTech did to make the MGU work with the ID6 head unit was way more extensive than simple "coding" ...

One interesting observation from my side today.

My 2018 F82 was in Bmw Stuttgart for gearbox oil service and I was out on a test drive trying to show the service manager a small clunk from front left suspension.

In his broken English he was saying how a F82 is his dream car etc and he didn’t even notice the G30 screen until I pointed it out to him and even then he couldn’t believe how good the oem plus fit was!
