1 series coupes and convertibles will be known as the 2-series. In fact, the 1-series/2-series will be the first cars to adopt the new naming system.

The M4 reference goes to show how FAT the M3 has gotten. Goodbye, legacy. Hello, mess.

M4 for coupe is 100% right.
The size off the E92 M3 and properly the new one will be even bigger. The M4 name fits the bill perfectly. |

Noticed you take European Delivery on Oct 17th. I am stationed in Germany with the military and I just ordered my new 2012 M3 coupe today through military sales with a BMW Welt delivery of November 11. I hear that they do a wonderful job with taking care of the European Delivery folks. Congrats and I hope you enjoy your delivery and trip over.

Good stuff. I knew the sedan would be back. I am just not down with the M4 moniker for the coupe & vert.

Last time I checked they already charge more for 2 fewer doors. While I agree that changing things is controversial, maybe as the world gets dumber they need to distinguish odd numbers with 4 doors and even numbers with 2 doors? We have seen the 3 series move from sedans and coupes that look a like just sans 2 doors, evolve into the e9Xs where the vehicles look distinctly different especially from the sides and rear ends. Maybe this just means that they will now make more clear design changes between the coupes and sedans. Regardless of where they're going, BMW has been making the right moves for quite some time now and I'm going to trust that these are moves in the right direction. The best news thus far is that the M3 sedan will live on. This will only make my decision between M3 & M5 even more difficult. |

I think the wonderful little 1M is to thank for this predicament. It didn't cause the problem but it sure accentuated it.

Glad to hear the M3 sedan is making a come back. As far as rumors of the M3 coupe being renamed the M4, bmw might have done this to signify a change to turbo engine for the iconic m3 coupe, since past generations of the coupes have always had NA engines-- just my own conspiracy theory, lol. Anyway, I'll believe the name change when I see it.
