F82 tail lights retrofitted into a F83?
I was always under the impression that F82 tail lights won't work for a F83 but I've seen a member here (see photo below) retrofit OEM GTS tail lights into his F83. What kind of work needs to be done? Any DIY available? I tried searching and didn't come up with anything.
I really want the GTS tail lights but I don't want to purchase them at the price tag for an OEM set. Now GTS-style tail lights for the F80 are available with talks about them releasing for the F82 soon. I'm sure the F83 version will take longer (if ever). So I plan to retrofit the F82 GTS-style tail lights into my F83 when they release. All input is appreciated. Thanks.

yea if you do a quick search, you'll see they have separate part numbers and are not interchangeable.

The only difference is the alignment peg on the inside of the tail lights. Or at least it is between F32 and F82. Just snip the peg off and the fitment is perfect.

I’ve done this on my F83 with OEM OLEDS
1) These lights will fit the F83 but the inner light pegs will need to be cut off as they don’t align but not needed. 2) Wiring harness was never made for this car hence you will need to run two additional wires and tap into two. I can’t recall as been sometime. This is the most complex bit. 3) You will need to code these into the car as GTS lights. 4) The lights are different shape hence the drip rails do not fit these like they do the F82 lights hence you will need to modify these drip rails to make them fit. No idea why BMW changed the shape design for these but believe it was because they didn’t want them to go on the F83. |
