The M4 is gone - Thanks for everything!

Like many before me, I wandered into the Porsche store and came home with a 911 lol. I bought an Agate Gray 991.2 Carrera S with the PDK transmission. It was a bittersweet moment as I've spent countless hours (and $$) with the M4 getting it just right. And it was perfect. But it's hard to fight the car bug when you have it.

Anyway, thanks for all the great car talk and advice. I've met a few of you in person at local BMW meets and MPACT. I'll likely stick around the forum as my wife's X5 is still in the stable.

Cheers everyone! Time to paint the garage...

Dude that garage paint is awesome! Do you happen to remember what paint/colors you used for the M colors?

Congratulations! Beautiful 911, and I feel your sentiment. Been looking to make the same move for some time but haven’t quite done it!

Hopefully you stick around here long enough to give us a quick comparison of the two!

Enjoy!

Thanks! I had fun doing that and am kind of sad to wipe it out now lol. Here are the colors I used and I believe I found the color codes on the BMW official site at the time.

Let me preface this by saying I'm just your average car enthusiast. I'm a competent driver having been on a couple of circuits but by no means do I think I have it all figured out lol. The M4 when I bought it was the most powerful car I had ever had. I bumped it up to stage 1 and did some sound modifications and wheels/tires etc. It was lowered on Swift spec R springs too. I thought it was fast AF and could handle turns masterfully. Boy was I missing data...

The 911 is literally better in every imaginable way. Acceleration is ridiculous (of course this is PDK compared to my manual M4), stopping power holy hell. OMG the tight corner off ramps where I would go maybe 55/60 before are easily 65 now and I'm just learning the cars limits. The interior fit and finish are complete luxury. Steering response is *Chef's Kiss*. The rev-match throttle blips when downshifting with the paddles is intoxicating to hear. Hell just the overall exhaust sound is deeper and more rich sounding. No more rasp. ugh.

I honestly had anxiety the morning I was taking delivery of the 911. I didn't know if I was ready to part ways with my Hooligan M4 but wow, that all disappeared the moment they slid the cover off in the showroom.

Anyway, I'm obviously in the honeymoon stages with it so may be skewed a bit. I'll report back again at a later date.

Cheers!

I didn't think it'd get any better, but that's great to hear that the Porsche is a solid upgrade! Enjoy! I'll "upgrade" soon... maybe a few years from now.

Great upgrade from what I hear although they’ve all looked exactly the same for the last 15 years to the un-enthusiast. Treat it like a bad dog so it doesn’t go to waste! 😆

Congrats with the new purchase. With still having the BMW motorcycle you’ll need to do the Porsche theme on the other wall and swap out a few tiles

I have owned many Porsches over the years including several GT3’s unfortunately like all cars the late models have too many “nanny’s s my street driving toy is a 2020 m4 6 speed but for real fun (at 81) I weekly take my well modified 1981 911 for a spin . Of note on shorter sports car tracks it still gives GT3 a run
As you can see I can drive a car just not post pictures properly . The local dealer likes me to display it on his showroom periodically

Having had several Porsches with PDK over the years and tracked and auto x them a suggestion drive them in sport Not sport plus ( I’m assuming you have the sport chrono option) and leave the selector in the auto mode . You can still use the paddles to downshift and if you do nothing more with them for approx 20 seconds it will return to auto mode . Sport plus shifts are rather abrupt. Another great feature of PDK is on a track or auto x and entering a turn hold the downshift paddle and the transmission will quickly move through the gears to the lowest gear that remains in the rev range thus no over rev .
History wise PDK first appeared in 2009 on Porsche street cars but was used on the LeMans overall winner in a Porsche 962 in 1982 a well developed tranny
Don’t get me wrong I throughly enjoy BMW and have owned quite a few as my wife will remind me enjoy the new ride

Congrats buddy and enjoy! My neighbor just acquired a 992.1 C2S. Sweet car. I literally spent 30 min walking around the car drooling. With 4 boys/kids in the household, and one heading off to college in 1 yr, my porsche dreams will be on hold for ~ 8 more yrs. More pics please?
