Thanks. I can't believe they don't have it. It's not like they have to add any parts - they're all there. Seems like it could all be done in the software.

Agreed, but rather than a set number a percentage above would be better. i.e.. 10%, which would keep your license safe no matter the zone (unless it was a fixed camera in the UK that is )

AFAIK it displays the speed on the HUD in green if you are within the speed limit, yellow up to +10kph and red above +10kph. It doesn't make any sounds/warnings. They don't want to be nagging I suppose...

I have it and I love it. As others mentioned before it lets me know how much I need to slow down. With the HUD I know current speed and the limit (including any changes from temporary signs). It does have its limits though, like it will pick up school zone limits (20mph) but they're only valid for a specific time frame. Any tool to help me avoid a tkt, I'll take it. Like most (but def not all) of the gadgets I thought they're useless gimmicks but end up loving it.

Sure. I drive a lot in heavily-policed residential suburban areas. The speed limit often changes from 30->40->45mph and back again. 8TH is a subtle reminder which gives me the knowledge I need to keep my speed in check, and has helped me avoid at least two tickets.

Are people so lazy/unobservant that this is necessary? Of course, I think a HUD in a car is also unnecessary (really, can't peak down at your speedometer for a split second?).

Exactly! I also had the HUD in my first f30. And while it was nice, I barely miss it in my current f30. Sheesh ... Someone on the f30 threads mentioned that he would never drive a BMW again that did not have a heated steering wheel, because it is ... a must-have option ... WTF! That's what we've come to? |
