CPO with paint repair?

Hi all,

Just wondering - will BMW CPO a car that has had the front bumper or hood resprayed due to rock chips or small blemishes?

Inspection is done on the powertrain, ... and not necessarily for esthetics. There are BMW certified (BMW Premium Selection in Belgium) cars who might have been almost fully repainted. I could not care less about this ‘quality’ label and would not trust it.

Yes, a vehicle can be CPO'd if there has been a bumper resprayed. It can even be CPO'd if it was in a minor accident as long as BMW parts were used for the repair, not more than 3 panels were impacted, and there is no structural damage. It is not uncommon to see CPO'd BMWs that have had the bumpers resprayed due to chips, scratches, and parking lot damage.

CPO is nothing more than a glorified extended warranty.

Where are you getting the 3 panel criteria?

My CPO'ed M4 has has some paint work done on the rear passenger quarter. It did not show up on carfax tho. It was not disclosed before sale. I even asked the dealer if it had any work done and they said no. I had it shipped from out of state, but when I got it there were some signs of repair. Either way, the repair was high quality and I got a it for a steal, so I'm happy with it.

repairs wont be reported unless there is a police report, or it goes through insurance.

bumper repairs are common...even if you turn in the car with very minimal damage, dealerships almost automatically repaint them (pretty crappy mind you)...its common and expected.

Even brand new cars can be repainted in the port before delivery to the dealer if there are only a couple panels needing to be repainted.

When I was looking for a CPO i3, one of them had some paint peeling/chipping on the rear bumper. It was just noted on the CPO inspection paperwork and they called it a day.

I'm sure you can negotiate that stuff if you really wanted the car for them to fix it.

just repeating what many have already said. CPO is just a mechanical guarantee. The vehicle has a good service history and was not in any major accidents with airbag deployment of structural damage. MOST cars on dealer lots will have some paint work. Its just part of the reconditioning, either by the dealer or by the previous owner. Cars come back from lease and on trade with scrapes and damage to bumpers almost every time. Its very common for those repairs to be done prior to sale. You can always have a body shop inspect the vehicle for paint work when considering a used vehicle purchase.
