Yep.

I have heard from a few guys that you can code it off for free (instead of paying for the M Driver's Package) when the car is brand new. I don't know how many miles the car must have, but it sure is possible IIRC.

I think the dinan stage 1 takes the limiter off but I can't imagine taking it that speed

There is no "piggyback" that is able to remove the limiter (which includes Dinan). Only "flash" tunes can do so.

I've hit 160 before, not sure if it had more in it. Shut it down right around there. All done in Mexico of course.

As posted above, "piggyback" tunes (with is the majority out there) cannot change the top speed limiter.

I have a friend that took my car 153. I would never be that irresponsible.

I've hit 150 or so in my E92 and haven't had a chance to track the F82 yet. Hit an indicated 176 in my buddy's supercharged E92 a few years back. That was an experience. Especially with him driving and basically putting my life in someone else's hands.

That's my preferred cruising speed too: top down, tunes cranked, wind whipping shit everywhere ... great way to get rid of trash!

After dutifully following the break in rules and having the 1200 mi service done I went looking for a piece of the A-bahn with enough room between construction zones. For the most part the M3 is VERY stable at speeds in the 130 - 140 range. I was able to cruise comfortably and felt fully in control. The cabin noise at speed was loud enough to make you want to drop below 110. I did find the limiter at 165 (By HUD). At 165 it is deafening in the cabin. So the bottom line, 130 is comfortable if you can get by the noise. In the US this thing can go from 0 to prison in less than 10 seconds!
If you did not take delivery in Munich..you wasted your money!

160s about every week. The limiter is pretty inconvenient when everyone on the 'bahn wants to race you.

True enough but....

Some would say going 150 on a public road qualifies as stupid shit

The theory is that vmax in DME must be coded prior to lock at under 10 engine hours. People have done the coding and as of yet, there have been no successful reports of the limiter being removed. Some have coded it and been unable to test, and others have coded it and still hit the limiter.

There's a whole thread on this:

http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1016476

Again, i've gone through it and not once has there been a confirmed report that this coding has been successful.

The curious thing about the limiter is that in Nick Murray's youtube M4 review, he has runs in which he hits 180 (indicated) and never hits a limiter at all. Bone stock M4, no coding, nothing. That's one thing I can't explain.

You can see him begin the runs at 6:12 and the shot that shows the 180 indicated is at 7:36.

Personally, I have done 150+ indicated on the autobahn during ED on my way to Heidelberg, but never pressed it as I was still trying to maintain the under 5500 rpm break-in procedures.

This was my thinking. The speedo's read high on purpose from the factory. I forget the detail but it was something like +2mph and a small % factor for errors. Basically, they dont want the speed0 to show you are going slower than you actually are.

But this is probably already known. I thought they were limited to 155 electronically (the HUD would probably show something above 160 though).
