Totaled or not?

I got into a bad front end collision and don’t know whether to repair the car or have it totaled. Airbags were deployed . Insurance is currently paying 22k to fix it but will increase .Please let me know what you guys think and what you guys would do . Thank you .

Is the top mount reservoir touching the rear brace? If so it's time to let her go.

Either way a fender bender is one thing, this is a bad hit even though it might not look like much because the car did what it was designed to do. Personally I wouldn't want it back but a very good shop could get it sorted to the point where most wouldn't notice.

Then you have your resale value if you decide to keep it.

Wow that has the bitter beer face. 22k is surly not enough; optimistically, get it repaired and make it a track weapon. Otherwise total it and move on

My insurance company has already sent out checks to my body shop to start fixing it. Idk if it’s too late to call it a total or how to have them total it . It’s a 2015 M4 with 34k miles and a manual transmission . I love the car and would love to save her but I’m scared she won’t drive the same

Feel like with the market these days I’d take that check for it to be totaled.
Now with it being fixed. How well of a job is it and you’ll know it was in a pretty good accident. That ain’t no fender bender.

i'm sure insurance is handled differently from state to state, but since you're in cali, as far as i know, the insurance decides if they should total ur car or not, if they decide to fix it, then that's how its gonna go.

Body work looks pretty straight forward - new hood, fenders and bumper (with paint). If the crash bar and other deformation elements did their job (and the hit was not that bad), the frame should be safe/straight (but will need to verify with everything apart). It is the mechanical stuff like the suspension and engine, that can make things get real expensive really quick. As an example, a complete set of new headlights, which includes all new modules that must be programmed to your car, will set you back almost $6k alone …. But if your headlight modules can be saved, the headlight bill could be cut in half.

It looks like your front radiators are toast (charge air coolant, engine coolant, and A/C condenser). But other than that does the engine run or turn over without any weird, obvious noises? Also, make sure you get factory/OEM parts - not aftermarket (which of course will drive the cost up)….

If insurance fixes the car, I would sell it before the accident shows up on carfax.

If they're paying 22k to fix that, it's not going to be done well at all
