Yes, they offered two PPks, one was just software, the other was software and some cooling hardware. Folks were pretty happy with the results, also a big plus was you were able to keep warranty intact. Yes, these were only offered thru BMW install as downloads if just sw was purchased I believe.

Yeah, I was never aware of a MPPK ever offered before to anything other than the above mention, so will they or won't they...who knows? My hope is they do, especially if they bump up the hp/tq in the Compk. Good revenue opportunity for BMW and helps us early adapters who didn't have the comp option to get the extra performance.

Hm..doubtful then. They've never done it for the other M cars, can't see why they would start now. Revenue goes both ways as it might cut into the competition package revenue as buyers might be more inclined to buy older models and tack on the new software. There's always wishful thinking though..=).

I don't know. BMW has seen how well their performance products have been selling. I would hope someone in BMW would realize not everyone is willing to sell/trade in a 1 or 2 year old car but know people would spend $2k on a factory performance upgrade.

I had the PPK1 on my 135 and it was quite nice. No Dinan or JB4 but keeping factory warranty was a nice piece of mind.

Yea..with no change on previous M model competition package retrofit strategies..I just don't see them deviating. It's even worse for the M6 owners as there was a second round competition package with an even greater HP,Torque boost with no dealer retrofit tune available.

Just like no one ever thought there would be M models that start with a X designator.

Honestly, I see no reason BMW would not offer an upgrade. It's all in the search for more money.

If BMW does offer it, cool, I'll probably buy it. If they don't, no big deal. But I'm sure as hell not trading in more almost brand new car for a competition one.

It will be nice to have a "limited edition" m3 but I'm not sure you will notice a difference once you are driving it, or maybe you will. I am one of those guys that would love a CP M3 and I was going to hold out but I was able to get allocation for the new F80 and I put my order in today. I asked my CA about the competition package and he didn't have any concrete info he could give me. If you are in dire need to get into one of these cars (me!) and you can find allocation for an order that can give you a good deal over Invoice than I don't think you will even care about the CP, but I can say that I would probably feel a little jealous seeing someone with an F80 CP drive by.

Yah you think F80 allocations are tough now, wait until they release some comp pack-only allocations and watch the madness begin.

I think allocations are the same whether it's a comp package or non (not separate allocations).

Correct, I verified with my CA today. However, madness will still ensue because that means even MORE demand. Ha.

Great question... unfortunately, nothing definitive and all speculation mixed in with rumours, a couple of unconfirmed reports, etc. Some say it will be announced in September with next Spring orders. Some say not until MY17 next Fall.

The 2016 ordering guide is out and it does not appear on it. In the past, it's been introduced during LCI; when is the LCI due for the F82?

MY2018.

But, I think we'll get comp pack in 3-12 months.

Water injection well on the M4 GTS, but not for the CP !?

Based on this article, it seems likely that water injection to improve Performance will come only in limited M4 GTS, but will not be part of the upcoming Competition package:
http://www.worldcarfans.com/11507289...mplement-water
The M4 GTS will probably most likely mostly of the reach of sport riders to racetrack use that can safely handle the specific requirements of the system.
But for the great mass of future M3 / M4 CP buyers it sure looks different ... I do not think that the water injection are met the regular BMW quality and warranty standards are met

Garage List
Was anyone really expecting them to implement it in the competition package?

I'd imagine that BMW is also considering the average car owner, who would not necessarily be impressed by a system that they have to regularly refill in order to extract the full performance of their car.

Many of the folks on the forum understand the benefits of such a system, and anyone who buys something like a GTS would likely feel the same way, but the every day M4 buyer who does not understand modified cars may be taken aback by such a feature.

Not I. I'm expecting 15-25hp bump, wheels, lowering, diff mode changes, and maybe some steering changes.

I wasn't even expecting them to use this feature on the GTS engine until there was a big press release about its use on the Moto GP safety car some months back. Even then, I was not giving it a huge chance when I first read about it. Only as time went on did this become more clearly a production-intent system. Anyway, it's funny how once something new is out of the bag, the tendency is to expect it to become commonplace in short order.

The thing is, I don't want an extra fluid (even if it's just water) to worry about keeping filled up, so from a consumer standpoint this is not the ideal solution. Along with the obvious issue of added cost, that's another reason why it's not being migrated to the more mainstream competition package.

Agreed and also most people slap stuff on thinking it will improve the car but never really get it right. Changing the suspension without properly tuning it and corner balancing the car as an example. You may think you used great components but may not actually get a better result (other than looks).

I was never ever expecting them to have water cooling as part of the comp pack. It's too big of a change in the car. The GTS, sure. TBH, I'm not sure what the comp pack would offer for ME. I feel like they got so much right with this iteration. Even the wheels. I've always loved the BBS CSL wheels, but for the F8X, given a choice, I'd choose the 437 19's over the E9X, E46 CP wheels. So then that leaves a small HP bump, tuned suspension, and maybe some minor software changes for steering, feel, modes, etc. Would be cool if they had stickier tires as part of the CP. And bring back the Alcantara steering wheel! Don't get me wrong, given the option, I'm sure I'd check the Competition Package box. But I wish they'd offer MPE as an option, and give you credit for the standard exhaust, like the wheels
