M3/M4 CS owners, how's your front splitter holding up?
The car feels like it has decent clearance but I'm wondering long term if I should still expect scratches especially here in NYC.

It'll get scratched up when going up and down driveways and transitions. Best bet to keep it as nice as possible for longest is to hop into the cosmetic section of the forum, and look for the 3M adhesive hard plastic scrip and slap some on the bottom of the 'fangs'.. its keeping my vorsteiner lip nice, despite scraping all the time.

Last time I got a cab ride from JFK the driver hit a pothole that was like 5 feet deep in NYC. With the F80, your down pipes would punch a hole through the hood if you hit that hole.

Have the M Perf CF front splitter. Last 6 months, but at least the cracks are very minor.

For these reasons I highly recommend the black ABS plastic splitter as opposed to the CF splitter. The plastic one has some give to it, the CF one will crack. I have some scratches on the bottom of mine but you dont notice them. At least if it really breaks too its only a fraction of the cost to replace as the CF lip.

It actually isn't that bad. The way the lip is designed, it has sort of 3 bosses that protrude underneath where it is attached to the frame. Since I am lowered, I've scrapped mine on multiple occasions. Every time I cringed, but whenever I inspect the lip, I can only find evidence of bad scraping on the metal screws on those protruding bosses.
As a tidbit, I scraped way more often in winter, probably due the smaller diameter and softer sidewall of the winter tires.

NYC have some unforgiving and brutal roads; I hit a pothole on the highway (Grand Central W.) and slashed a brand new tire, - yes, a pothole on the F-ing highway!
Some of even the major roads in NYC resemble the aftermath of a bombed section in the Gaza Strip... Terrible and a shame for a city that must collect enormous tax revenue.. Ask for the front splitter; it's definitely going to graze on many speed bumps and some gas stations inclines. Be ready to cringe.. My neighborhood: Last edited by Poochie; 05-29-2019 at 03:21 AM.. |

No scrapes on mine here in South Florida where it's very flat and the roads are in decent shape. I back in when parking to avoid the dreaded "Oh F*ck" moment the lip scrapes the parking block.
I do have one rock chip on the lower lip, but I'm ok with that

My driveway is cruel, so I know underneath took a few scrapes. Visually up top still looks perfect

I've got a genuine CS spoiler on my M4 ZCP and lasted 3 weeks before I ran over a bit of dead kangaroo and cracked it. I repaired it with carbon fibre resin and re-clear coated it and you can only see a slight line in the carbon weave at certain angles otherwise the repair looks good considering it cracked right through. The spoiler didn't move with the brackets behind it mounted to the chassis rails but no doubt it world have torn off a lip spoiler mounted to the bumper underside and likely damaged the bumper.
