Door Hyperextended

Very windy here in Boston today and my daughter was opening the car door and a strong gust of wind came along and themdoor got away from her and it hyperextended very quickly. I heard a sickening crack that I had not heard before when this happened. I immediately checked it out and thought everything seemed ok but the noice really bothered me. Anyone ever have something like this happen? Curious where I should maybe look for a stress crack etc. that I did not think of myself?

Check the hinges for a stress crack, check the panel gaps around the door, and test the door to make sure it is still water tight. If it happened to me I'd bring it by the dealer or a body shop and have them inspect it as well. I had the same thing happen to an old ZJ Jeep I had when I was younger and after that the door never sealed the same (tons of wind noise).

Seems to open and close ok. Thank you for the advice on things to check more thoroughly. I am going to pay attention to the seal and the weather tightness. I looked at the hinges for stress cracks already but this is what I am really worried about so I plan on looking again.

This is why I always open the door for a lady. Seriously though, (not knowing the age of your daughter) most people are oblivious. A buddy of mine kicked open my door with his foot once. Then shut it with his hip.

I keep thinking of planes, trains and automobiles, and the scene where he opens the door into traffic.

That's no friend

When someone is in my car for the first time I can be an absolute TOOL!

Nothing in pockets, don't slam door.

I do allow food and u can drink water

I'll adjust the temp as they like.

Most times I drive alone or with the wife and son🤷🏿*♂️

If it's my old gti have at it. It's a two door . I can't slam those heavy long doors

Hit your buddy across the shin bone with a metal pipe.

I say you kick the door closed on his car

All of this is solid advice. I think manufacturers build a small amount of tolerance in door hinges against hyper-extension and that could be the sound you heard but do test for an airtight water-tight seal. A good body shop should definitely be consulted.

This also happened to me today. Anyone else? Is there anything to worry about?

I think there are plastic "safety" straps that usually prevent damage. Check straps or something!?
