That's what I'd like to know. Dealership said they are seeing this since cold weather moved in. Apparently its a thing. I've had mice in the garage at various times over the years, trapped plenty, missed a few that built nests. But nothing like this. What's particularly galling is I set a trap last week, and nothing.

Wonder if it happened awhile back and it just finally started coming loose and leaking gas. Why would a mouse do this?

I had that happen to my M5. I wrapped some moth balls, pepper flakes, cloves and cayenne pepper in some cheese cloth, and put that on top of the gas tank panels to keep the mice away. Apparently they don't like that stuff. Never had a mouse problem again.
