Pretty sweet I just purchased my first M3 2 months ago (a 2017) and it will remain the current generation for another [almost] couple years.

A '16 or '17 specifically seems feasible right now as far avoiding as much depreciation over your ownership. Plenty of low mileage cars out there.

I picked up my '17 with 24k and that's not even close to some of the low mile '17's out there, or even 16 and 15's.
Hey man, why do you say until 2021? I've heard from everywhere we'll see it next summer (2020)

You are correct and this rumor lines up with other M3/M4 releases. Generally the M comes one year after the base 3 series. Most likely 2021 G80 will hit the ground late spring to early summer of 2020.

New 340i looks big, needs a diet, I hope I warm up to G80 M3 if not I'll be glad to have used low mileage F80s available to purchase for the foreseeable future.

The ORIGINAL F80 was a jet fighter produced by Lockheed near the end of WWII, nicknamed the "Shooting Star" that evolved into the F94 "Starfire". I used to see them flying around when I lived near Dover AFB back in the mid-1950s. I imagine that driving one of those was a good thing back in the day also.

What’s a solid price range for a low mileage 2017 right now?
Some websites saying 2017* should depreciate about 10% for the next 2 years so not that bad.

Edit: Meant 2017, not 2027.

Tell me more. I am in this exact same situation. I have a 340 in my lease is up in a few months. I was considering leasing either in him for that I found, or I'm still looking for a more affordable M3.

Can anyone tell me the Major differences between the 2017 and 2018 M3? I've been looking for an 18, but maybe I should reconsider and start looking for a 17. Or maybe even a 16? Can anyone tell me the big differences between 16 and 17 also? I'm sure I could look this up. But you guys seem to know everything

Need some advice. My 2017 F80 M3 lease is about to be up. Dealer told me buyout is $41K, car has 27K miles. Haven't decided to keep or not. Any thoughts?
In addition, will BMW financing give the same price if I call them?

Thanks!

I recently bought my first ///M ('15 M4) with lower miles (36k) and couldn't be happier. Since there haven't been a ton of refreshes over the years, it's in my mind pretty similar to the newest F82. In that way, I think i'll be happy with it for a long time!

This is the response that I received when I tried contacting BMW Financial Services directly last year trying to get a better rate on my wife's 2018 M3:
"BMW Financial Services is a captive finance company. Due to laws that regulate captive finance companies, we are not able to offer you direct financing for the purchase of your vehicle. We are only able to offer financing through our BMW centers for vehicles in their inventory. We recommend contacting your local BMW center directly for information regarding the finance rates and programs that are available to you at this time. We purchase and administrate the contracts after they are executed at the independently owned and operated BMW centers."
Bottom line, they're not like a regular financial institution and they won't deal directly with you.

Thanks!
I called BMW FS and they just quoted me a different price! 4K more. Now I'm confused - who has the right number. Obviously it will affect which route I go with the car.

Any thoughts on $41K vs $45? Keep or return lease?

Your lease has a buyout price. That’s what’s Bmw FS will quote.

Your dealership can get the car from bmw fs for cheaper and sell to you at whatever they want.

Seems like your contract says $45k but your dealer wants to sell to you for $41k (they still can make money at that price)

If you like the car, buy it. I don’t think ‘17 are $41k yet on the open market

I don't think BMW is "allowing" that scenario to happen any longer. It has been stated on here many times that they WILL not let the previous leaser obtain a discount off the residual price of the car (currently). Going as far as preventing the "returning" dealerships from selling the returned car back to the leaser at a discount. Meaning if your name is on the lease BMW won't allow a dealership to sell the car back to you at a discount after drop off. In saying that I haven't attempted to do this but many forum members have run into this situation.

Could the discrepancy be related to the dealer not including sales tax?

I don't know why people think that's a feasible alternative to a true m3. I drove one and it handled like shit with a ton of body roll and poor weight transfer. Sure it's quick in a straight line but that's about it. I'd much rather have a slightly used f80 over it, but to each their own.
