I understand both sides of the argument. I'm truly a 3 pedal kind of guy but I could only imagine how nice those rev matched downshifts would be.

Any mention if it can be turned off? That would ultimately give you the best of both worlds.

All that aside, this car is properly awesome.
Not really much massaging. With the N54 you got similar power with a ~$500 SW tune and much, much more power when using more advanced tunes.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=374508

It's pretty obvious that the engine is not the party trick with this M3 iteration. BMW has taken the cheap and easy route with the engine this time and focused more on weight, it doesn't mean that the car isn't going to be very powerful and spectacular as a package. What remains to be seen is how revolutionary the anti-lag system is. If it really works well this engine can still be special for a while. The S65 on the other hand will always be special.

Btw is there anyone with good photoshop skills and some time on their hands that could overlay the S55 power chart with one from the N63TU adjusted to the same ratings ( crank or rw ) power? I suspect they are pretty similar.

They both look nice, except the M3 looks like a baby M5. Same could be said for M4 and M6 I guess.

By the way, good luck to the aftermarket tuning community.

At 18psi from the factory and the new Bosch ECU's, it will be very difficult to crack. Probably even harder than the new M5/6 which has proved very difficult. Even the best tunes are seeing limp modes. Even throwing on catless downpipes will be met with "torque overlimit" which will cause limp during sustained WOT runs.

In straight line racing, the e9X M3's will have the upper hand for a long time. Let's see how the new M3/4 does at the track.

You could but that would disable DTC/DSC. I don't know if you would want to drive with that all the time just so a driver could heel/toe themselves especially in bad weather.

These cars are gorgeous. Especially the M4. M4 in Blue with silverstone full leather is going to be gorgeous.

was thinking of buying a 911 but maybe I'll hold off. M4 is looking good. I may put a deposit down.

But his point is that he wanted more involvement I'm assuming, so that was my answer. If you have bad weather, man up and ask the car for as much help as possible (that's what I do in snow) Comfort mode and full traction support

No doubt the N54s and N55s had massive power potential. The difference here being this engine has a full factory warranty and has upgraded internals and cooling designed for 430+ hp (430 is likely conservative too). Those engines also were not known for their high rpm power delivery. They sort of die around 6000 RPM. We don't know the characteristics of the S55 just yet, but with a claimed 7600 rpm redline, I'm hoping M wouldn't let it limp it's way up there.

What is the weight difference between 6-M and DCT? I think "someone" could make that cal. given the power/weight ratios for the different trans.

I agree and I suspect the S55 will not feel much different than a tuned N54 but the difference being not only the warranty but also that BMW has spent significant effort in trying to make the S55 "track grade" I.e that it can generate it's power consistently over an extended track session without overheating etc.

The M4 kills the M3 in the booty department. I'll be waiting for a ZCP/LCI so plenty of time to chew.

HP is not the selling point, its the massive increase in torque and lighter weight that will ultimately make our e92 M's feel like a horse and carriage ride.

Looks like BMW hit a home run again with the M3/M4!! That interior is light years ahead of my E92.

I came, I saw, I came again.

I was ripping no the M3/4 in the new Mustang GT thread, but I'm not sure Ford can bring anything to the table on the S550 GT to touch this on the track. Maybe the new Boss 302 will, but I don't think their GT will now. Damn.

I really like the M3 more, but with 176lbs in savings with the coupe, it might be a real challenging choice. Hmmm...

A little over 3100lbs on the M4. Christ.

A 3.9 is impressive and I'm not an HP whore or else I'd be driving a GT500, but still...425-431 HP is a bit of a letdown. The next gen C63 AMG is coming and rumors to be above 450 horsepower. The M4 was more impressive when we heard about the weight cuts and hopes were running high for a good sprint time, but with barely any more HP than the outgoing M3, I'm not sure if it's really worth the M badge. Don't get me wrong, the M3/4 is a million times more beautiful in my eyes and I'd take it over anything else under $100k any day, but still, I was expecting a bit more performance for that M badge. Especially since 335i's with ECU tunes and $1500 of upgrades are hitting close to 400 HP.

Not to mention the C7 Corvette is hitting close to a 3.6s and looks just as beautiful...
Spot on brother!
