The car is a 2016 ECE-spec. In selected European countries, OTA map updates have been available for some time now. I think every car with ConnectedDrive gets two years of free shizzle (map updates, BMW Online apps, etc.) and on top of that, it's possible to prolong the contract to 3 years and buy more stuff (RTTI, Online Entertainment, Concierge Services).

Anyway, in the car, it looks like this:





It shows what services you have got, e.g. in this case, it is OTA map updates, USB map updates, TeleServices, and SOS calls.

To download the maps, visit this website, choose your country, make an account, type in your VIN, go to the car, type in the code they gave you on the website in order to connect the vehicle with the online portal.

Maps: it then asks you to choose OTA or USB updates. For USB updates, BMW Download Manager is then used. FSC code is included. Just don't be like me and buy a 32GB stick beforehand.

Ya, the Euro-spec cars have much better options that we have in North America. Very frustrating for us.

It was actually 40% the sale lied. It doesn't matter I am getting rest of the car clear bra and ceramic pro this week. The front bumper has clear bra but it got few deep rock chips.

I figured out that having a 2015 doesn't help much with learning iDrive in a new 2018. It's almost like learning iDrive all over again for the first time and I can't figure out how to do a few things. Need to get the manual out.

I don’t remember the 2015 taking much effort to learn. I just figured out how to find iPhone playlists on the 2018 and it takes a few menus to go through when it was very simple before. I’m trying to keep an open mind but I’m finding it very annoying right now. It also looks like the Performance Center didn’t give me the separate manual fit Nav and Entertainment.

No, I had it on a loaner car last year and didn’t like flipping between iDrive and CarPlay and didn’t find it very useful vs. the version of iDrive I had at the time. I believe I can still get it but don’t really want it. I also understand from another thread that if you get CarPlay you can’t see text messages through iDrive, which I can do now (but again not as simple as in my 2015).

I’ll work through the basics of what I care about but find it annoying BMW changed some of the functionality to make it more complicated and / or remove functionality. “Progress” I guess. I do think the navigation voice recognition and searching is much, much better though.

The one thing I really don’t get, is that you can’t toggle between rear-view camera and overhead view by pressing down on the controller. You have to go into the menu now, super unintuitive.

Agreed. There seems to be an overall trend of needing to go into menus (or deeper into menus), which is the opposite of what I want. It seems like they changed stuff that worked well just for the sake of changing stuff.

I love the sound of the inter cooler and fans. Especially really hot days when its constantly cooling itself. or on shutdown when the fan whines out or stays on. Reminds me how much cooling is required to keep the beast tamed and sounds boss

Not really a "discovery" as it happens right in front of your eyes when the headlights come on-- but I dig that the center console lights switch from white to the traditional amber lights when the headlights turn on. I would rather the entire instrument cluster did the same thing as I am a fan of the amber lights; a BMW trademark IMO.

It drastically reduces range, but works perfectly when the phone is in the cupholder.

My car has the Lane Departure Warning and a "cool to me" feature: if you don't use your turn indicators when changing lanes, the LDW buzz goes off in the steering wheel. I always use my turn indicators anyway, but I like it as a gentle reminder to always indicate (a driving etiquette that is woefully lacking among the vast majority of dumb ass LA motorists) when changing lanes or making turns.

Well.....yes, how else would the car know you're actually meaning to change lanes instead of drifting involuntarily?
