Anyone have trouble getting into first at times? I only have 17k miles on my car and recently I've have trouble getting into first gear at a dead stop.

Same issue here '18 M4 comp pkg w/ manual. Sometimes it will go into first if I let the clutch out just a little. Otherwise I have to go to second and then back to first to get it to engage.

Wonder if switching to a high quality transmission fluid (Redline or Amsoil) would help to smooth things out?

It's just between a cog, let out clutch in neutral for a sec then try again.

15' with about 32K miles, no issues getting into first at all. I must admit though, the clutch has a life of its own though. Its can be noisy and chattery at low speeds some days and no matter how smooth I am, going up to second requires my full attention and effort. Then there are good days where I have absolutely zero noise and problems at all.

Whenever that happens, go into 2nd for a quick second and then first. You don't take your foot off the clutch pedal or anything, just quickly into second and then right back to first. Happens occasionally with many different manual transmissions and this will almost always get things lined up properly to allow for a smooth shift into 1st.

I've had this problem in all my previous manuals. Either go to second then back to first, or slowly let out the clutch while trying to go into first.

Good point in going to second then go back to first. I do this or let the clutch out for a split second in neutral and it's all done without me even thinking about it. It's a very slight annoyance but all My manual cars have done this...well maybe not my Studebaker truck with three on the tree...it would just grind LOL

I agree here. Have had many manuals and at some point they all do this. It’s just the way it is I suppose.

Happens to me rarely

Slight throttle blip and the shifter will slide smoothly into 1st gear with very little force

This isn't my first manual but first Bmw. I've never had any problems with the others. Ill be at a reed light and when it turns green it won't go into gear I have to try a few times then goes into gear

I do the same. Clutch out, blip throttle, clutch in, slight pressure on 1st and once it synchronizes it drops right in.

This maybe happened 2-3 times in the 2 year ownership of my M4. It also occasionally happens in my manual 2001 Miata but going to 2nd and then 1st usually works. However, this started happening on a daily basis on my M2 Comp. It happens at least once a day for the past 10 days and sometimes 2nd to 1st shift doesn't help either. This only happens when the car is at full stop and trying to put it into 1st from neutral. Today it also got popped out of first gear a few seconds after I started rolling (which made a very bad noise and was kinda scary). The car has less than 5k miles and I feel like there is definitely a transmission problem. I'm taking it in on Tuesday but it'll be really hard to reproduce it since it's so random. I really don't wanna hear "we couldn't reproduce it" and then take the car back. This is just a 1st gear problem though. all other gears work perfectly.

This has been happening to me as well. '16 ZCP 6MT. No issue going into any other gear (smooth as butter actually), but engaging 1st from a complete stop can sometime feel as it I cannot push the lever fully forward to clutch pops out with temporary gear grinding.

This is my 3rd 6MT BMW and it has not happened to me before. Mentioned it to the dealership and they feel car is fine. Annoying though.

I have an 18' M3 comp that I bought with 2300 miles and at around 5k this started happening. Just seemed stuck. Going into second and then first does the trick.

It also happens less to me when in sport or sport+. Driving the car as is in efficient it happens all the time. I make sure to be in gear before the light turns green. Pissed off a lot of people behind me who missed the light haha

Do you guys think a transmission fluid flush would help with the situation?

I'm so glad I'm not the only person experiencing this. This happens occasionally when I try to go into 1st from neutral and the car is stopped, getting into 1st gear feels as if something is blocking it. I will try the slight rev while pushing the shifter into 1st and see if that helps. Otherwise I move the shifter to 2nd and then back to 1st and while this helps slightly, there's always some resistance and I feel as if I'm forcing it. Never had this happen on my 135i.

Same issue on 18 f80, non zcp. Usually have to wiggle it into 2nd or neutral then back into first. Annoying cause it catches you by surprise and traffic behind you starts getting antsy.
