E46 M3 is still the best looking by far.

Interior: M4 is much better obviously than any previous //M3.

Both look good.

But I saw the M3/M4 in person the other day. It was a bit underwhelming really, strangely they look more aggressive in pictures.

Other than the time spent designing those hideous front and rear bumpers on the new model

The designers didn't spend very much time doing anything else
What's with the mish mash of lines and curves that don't meet correctly or flow?
Both bumpers looks ricey, compared to the sleek lines of the e92 bumpers
To me it's like someone who's trying too hard to make it different
Not someone who's trying to design a nice clean shape

I think the e92 shape has aged very well
Doesn't look old, and still looks good
To me the new model looks a little Japanese
I.e. Overdone and in your face type styling
Can't believe we get this shit after the bangle years
Thought we'd already paid our dues in that respect

Bangle and his team were actually responsible for some very sharp looking BMW's, including the E92 that you claim has "aged very well". We used to have some intense discussions about Bangle; the most vocal detractors were unaware that they were driving a car that he and his team designed.

"
Quote:
He became the first American chief of design of BMW on October 1, 1992, where he designed the Z9 Gran Turismo concept car.

Bangle's designs are incorporated in the entire BMW lineup, including the 1, 3, 5, 6 and 7 series as well as the X3, X5, and X6 the newest design SUVs, and the concept car Gina. These span the automotive platforms E81 / E82 / E87 / E88, E90 / E91 / E92 / E93, E60 / E61, E63 / E64, E65 / E66 and E53. During the Bangle era, BMW overtook Mercedes as the global leader in premium car sales.

He introduced a new BMW concept car, called GINA on June 10, 2008.

On February 3, 2009, Bangle announced that he was to quit both his position at BMW and the auto industry altogether, to focus on his own design-related endeavours.[3] He was replaced by Adrian van Hooydonk.[4][5]

M4 looks great but I still think the M3 looks better... It just has the classic bmw mean look to it.

Well then enjoy your super car e92 and stay in that section. Thank you for your wonderful non bias observation. I am sure I will spot you at the town center in a few years in a new M4

I wouldn't exactly call the E92 heavy. After all the marketing the new M4 is only 80kg lighter. Basically an adult passenger away from an E92. Torque is a different story, the turbo-6 will definitely provide more of that.

Gathering from what I've read in these posts, it's hard to let go with the old M3. I for one was a big fan until the M4 came out. The M4 has a meaner look. Everyone will have their own opinion but given time when the M4 starts gaining more enthusiasts and how it will outperform many cars on paper, the naysayers will start praising more how nice the M4 really is. Comparing the old with the new, it's obvious that the M4 has a sleeker, aggressive look to it. The M4 looks like a professor next to his M3 student :-)

The car feels heavy regardless of what is on the paper. The lack of tq and having to rape your rpm over 8000 to achieve full power is the culprit of the feeling of a heavy car. I am sure e92 fanboys will make love to their exhaust pipes all night until they drive a much quicker and agile new M. Until then we just have to deal with all of this.

why the new m3/4 do not have those cut outs/grills in the hood near the air filter dome? e46 and e90 had them... Considering how "flat" and "empty" the hood is on F3/4 series, I think something needs to be there...

Because they aren't needed with the S55. Also, E46 did not have them, only the E92 had the hood vents (one was a dummy).

I have owned every M3 except an E30. Each one has its only personality. The S65 in the E9x is perfection on track days, I enjoy dropping it down gears around town. I feel the lack of torque is completely blown out of proportion. I will get a new M3 or M4 eventually, as it is the next step. I know I will certainly miss my E90 M3, as I did my E36 and E46. Not sure why some feel they have to either hate on the E9x M3 or hate on the incoming M3/M4.

I completely agree! The bumpers remind me of a labia every time I look at them. The interior is also a mess and when I sat in the 435i the quality was definitely below that of an E92.

F82 in every conceivable aspect.

Even the larger size is an improvement if you ever have to put actual humans in the back seat (as I have to every day).

Interior, exterior, power, weight, tech, fuel mileage, double bubble carbon roof, all better than the E92... and I love the E92.

F82 for me, and I'll take it in polarizing Austin Yellow please. It will be loved and hated, but never ever ignored or mistaken for a generic coupe.

Wow, there's improvement in M4. I still like M3 V8 with no turbo (to avoid turbo lag). Quite impressive, M4 is on diet with quicker performance.

Autoblog on the E92 M3, "A special car, in perhaps its best ever specification, that's leaving us all too soon."

This will be my last M3. Can't stand the poor build quality of the F3X from which it is derived. That leaves me looking at a 991 4S or 550 PS.
