So the passenger side is the one that needs "slowing down" since its shorter....

I am going to try swapping out the one of the magnaflow resonators that i currently have installed on my car with one that is twice as long just on the passenger side to see if it changes the tone any.

Quick video I made directly after finishing up with the x-pipe. The pipes are still clean (exhaust sounds actually change once they have soot or whatever coats the inner pipes). I'll get more video's after I put on a few more miles:

Some thoughts:

The X-pipe is pretty smooth sounding all around, especially in lower and mid rpm, and smoother sounding up top
The H-pipe delivers a more raw sounding howl at high rpm, but sounds more regular S55-like at low rpm.

Both set-ups have some rasp between 3,500-4,000rpm at 1/2 throttle (but gone at any other throttle position) due to the delete of that center resonator/crossover pipe. I bet if I can restore that OEM center resonator in there but weld the crossover section with straight pipes that rasp in that area would be gone.

I could live with that or even put quad and space it out like the E92 M3 style .

Interesting. I just took my car out again, and I noticed I'm getting a tiny bit of e46 m3-ish rasp in the same rpm range. And I also removed that resonator obviously. I'm starting to think that I either need to get larger resonators to replace the Magnaflows, or get a resonator after the merge. Consulting my fabricator and will report back. But my tone sounds completely different, will be very interesting to hear it on camera vs. yours when I get around to it.

I just finished putting a video together of my midpipe design....and it sucks! All I did was succeed in making my M3 sound like an ATS-V
I won't post it.

Considering the options we have posted, I think this is the best looking one. Think of it as weight reduction

In essence yes as its shorter by a foot and a half.

So long as we don't end up with this to achieve better sound, I'm happy.

Can you please post it?

Sound is subjective and its interesting to hear what different setups sound like.

Not a fan of that sounds. It sounds like a 350Z.

No way, I'm not posting it. That ATS-V sounds better!

I think I just don't like the sound characteristics of the stock muffler system.

I have a couple adjustments I'll make next week after my car gets more warranty work done, and then I'll move on to the last M3 exhaust project I have.

I like the way that looks too. Especially if it's an M3 that sounds good In fact I'd like any single exit as long as the diffuser matched. To me I6's seem more natural with a single exit.....at least the fast ones

Ok so I was able to get to some standing revs of my exhaust. I need to work on the small bit of rasp around 3500 RPM - I think it might be my single walled tip resonating at that rpm, but after hearing it outside of the car, honestly I think it sounds like it's naturally aspirated haha. Thanks all. Another big thing to point out is that this is a really beefy muffler. It's quieter than stock with valves open. So engine noise may be drowning out the exhaust tone a bit. A pull will be a better representation of what the tone sounds like, but I couldn't figure out scheduling with the person to record it. Will try ASAP to get a pull recorded.

Also, I may need to make the muffler smaller to fit a resonator in after the merge, so the tone may get even nastier afterwards.

Big fail for me today... bought the part and went back to my exhaust shop to find out the new magnaflow resonator is a tad too big to fit in the mid pipe location. I didn’t factor in the way the pipes bends upwards right at the mid brace area so installing a perfectly straight resonator wouldn’t work without some sharp bends that would hinder flow. The project would have been more than my fabricator could handle....

Tone is good but def sounds quieter than stock at this point. I think it could sound amazing with a much smaller resonator type muffler.
