Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+ Experience?
Has anyone experienced the Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+ on the F80 platform? I daily drive my M4 (60-100 miles daily).
Curious to hear about people's driving impressions with the AS3+ on the F80 platform. My experience with the AS3+ from my previous car (Scion FR-S/86/BRZ) was that it was a good solid overall tire however the tread life wasn't that great. At around 20K miles, I was at 4/32nds already. Michelin was able to pro-rate 50% or so of the tire towards another Michelin set of tires and I got MPS4S from that scenario. I sold the car after I got MPS4S because it had engine failure from the crankshaft (POS Subaru Engine) so I wasn't able to compare the AS3+ much to the MPS4s. I only got around 8500 miles out of my stock MPSS, so that tread life warranty of 22,500 (half of 45000 because staggered fitment) would really benefit me.

Depending on how you drive your M3, I would never even consider placing AS3's on a car that can barely keep traction with Super Sports on WOT. Don't nickel on dime on tires for this car if anything I would think about upgrading to the newer version (MP4S) as they will last longer than your MPSS tires.

Will your car be seeing temperatures under 30deg F consistently? The AS3+ has the best dry traction for that class of tires and might give you some wiggle room if you see snow whereas the PS4S won't be too happy if it sees snow.

I live in Chicago and run A/S 3+ on my F80 which is also my daily driver. In our weather conditions, these tires allow me to confidently push the car to its max.

I have them as my cool-cold season tires on my f80 and I am very happy with them. I have only had them on one season ~3k miles so far so no idea on longevity and such. I can still have some fun, they handle pretty well. Good enough for as hard as I feel pushing the car on public roads. I would hope/expect to get 30-35K out of them maybe based on other mich all season experience, Vs expected ~15-20k out of PSS/PS4

I used to rotate between summer/winter sets. Michelin SuperSport for summer and designated winter tire. 2 years ago I installed those A/S 3+ tires on my RWD Benz and had no issues driving the car in Chicago. Few months ago I got RS5 and first thing I did was to put A/S tire on the car (car came with summer Conti tires). The tire is very good and highly recommended. Yes, it will not handle as good as a designated winter tire in winter, but summer performance is very good. Most people will not have any traction issues... and if you do you probably need wider tires and Sport Cup type. For me the ease of use > extra winter performance. |
