6MT Owners - reconnect with your car in Sport+
I have been pretty content driving around in Sport engine mode on a daily basis. Sport mode is peppy enough for mild shenanigans around the city - keeps things interesting on the daily commute. And I have gotten used to rev match feature making things simple (lazy).
Lately I have gone back to roots and been driving in Sport+ mode. Even better throttle response and no rev match makes you work for smooth (and rewarding) shifts. 6MT Owners - embrace sport+ and reconnect with your car. You will be glad you did. |

The first thing I do when getting in the car is double click my M2 button so that I am in sport plus. I love rev matching and heel toeing without the computer intervention, very satisfying.

Even reading the third time didn't help. Are by any chance a protégé of Mr Manninen? She taught me English too.

Lol, what he is saying is that Sport+ is like a sprint booster, it shortens the useful range of the loud pedal and thereby dumps more fuel into the engine per distance pushed. It feels like it does to some extent but it does more things as disabling auto rev match and possibly also applies more agressive anti-lag measures. Personally I find it a bit aggressive on the street but if you are an agressive driver I can see the appeal

I'm half way through Canada. I can honestly say the driver matters more than the settings. I'm on full attack mode all the time, and yet no kills. I like how I slide without tc on, and I like how firm the steering is. None of those things have a dramatic effect on consumption. I still can leave the lights like a granny. (I tested this. It can be done) Damn time difference is killing me now. At this hour I'm alive usually. Btw, Mrs manninen could've easily been confused with being a Mr. Typo for sure above, but she would've made a handsome he.

I can not imagine the rev matching feature as non of my cars currently have it, I am interested to find out but I agree, there is no replacement for doing it all yourself.

I love the rev matching feature, will never buy another manual transmission without it. It makes daily driving a bit easier while allowing you to shut it off for more serious time behind the wheel.
Is it me, or does the clutch/gears feel different when in Sport+? It almost gets a little more sudden and not nearly as smooth. Not sure if that's in my head or part of the S+ settings.

Isn't the throttle supposed to be binary? On/off. What am I missing here?
What's a downshift?

I drive in sport+ all the time. Don't find it twitchy or unnerving at all, you get used to it. Aggressive downshifts with heel toe are actually smoother with the revs up in this mode (3500-4000+) and I think that is why the throttle map is shifted more to the left to get the revs up quicker (tuned for track I imagine)...anyway I just LOVE this car. Just sayin'

This. Sport+ is not more responsive, it is just way too touchy. It takes more effort to drive smoothly in sport+ not because it's difficult to rev match the old fashioned way, but because the throttle setting is just not conducive to smooth driving. This is why we need independent control of rev match - so we can turn it off in regular sport mode.

In short the computer is still smoothing your shifts for you on the upshifts as well, its just not as noticeable or drastic as it is on the downshifts and when you get used to driving with that feature on you can quickly forget that you're actually not supposed to fully come off the throttle on an upshift. In fact you're supposed to approximate the engine speed with your right foot as well for a truly perfect shift. FYI I'm not knocking you here by any means I notice it all the time when I change modes you just get used to having the car do it for you! Rev matching on upshifts is great on the highway and in traffic. . . Even moreso then downshift matching which I still think is fun to do yourself, and its actually in many ways easier. I don't really think there is anything "fun" about upshift matches (lightly taking your foot out to a precise point on the throttle) especially when you're doing it casually during regular driving, so this is actually the main feature I use Sport mode for. I prefer to downshift myself for spirited driving. Using Sport or Efficient on the highway you can literally do 0% throttle perfect upshifts every single time and no one in the backseat of the car will have any idea that you're driving a manual basically no matter what your skill level is. That is a pretty impressively built feature. Now before I get flamed. . . Sport+ engine Sport+ suspension Sport steering and TC fully off is engaged every single time I get in the car via my M2 button for at least a major portion of the trip I just like the rev matching for boring highway drives and I really like the comfort suspension setting for casual driving on shitty NY roads.

I would totally occasionally use efficient and no rev match from time to time if I could.
