I want to like it but it honestly sounds terrible. Like a lawn mower.

No doubt that will be just a minor weak point on an otherwise great car.

Those days are over I'm afraid, we need to stop comparing this car to the old one.

It's like aging right. When you are 35 years old, you can't eat and drink and get wasted like you did in college 15 years ago. You have to worry about your heart and such. You also don't look as good, you have saggy breasts and big belly. You can't run up a flight of stairs as fast and feel out of breath right away. Now you can sit and complain all day about how you are not 20 anymore or you can be happy with what you have at 35 that you didn't 15 years ago such as a beautiful daughter that gives you a hug or a wife who makes you happy. You need to find happiness in different things.

It's pretty much the same thing here. The badass sounding exotic V8 is gone. It's the I6 what we have, but we have much better fuel economy. Improved interior. Tech gadgets and so on. M is an M.
first off i realize its a V6 and you cant compare a V8 to a V6 but still it should be a V8 so it could sound like it should. and this aging thing, how old are you? because im 38 and im in better shape and look younger than alot of people younger than me so you really cant compare. regardless the V6 M3/M4 sounds like crap for the aggressiveness it maintains on the outside. i expected better. honestly a V6 G37 sounds better than these cars.

But this is an I6, you can't expect the same sound.

I'm sure those who are complaining, wont be once they drive it. (That's what active sound is for :P)
that active sound is stupid. engine noise coming from my speakers? thats a joke. ill just download an App on my iphone with car sounds and plug it into my aux and floor it and get that Prrrrrr!!

I'm 36 years old and I actually do look and feel 10x better than I used to when I was 20 years old. I used to weigh 245 pounds back then eating fast food 3x a day, now I weigh 165 pounds with less than 5% body fat - I work out 6 days a week I was just trying to give a real world example.

And sorry but what V6 are you talking about?

I think this thread is going to get locked soon seeing how bad it's going to hurt the M3 sales and pre-orders.

Car sounds awful! Stock 911 turbo or stock GTR sound MUCH better, and those two sound insanely good for turbo motors with exhausts. This just sounds like a civic... If you think that sounds good, you are seriously delusional and in denial.

You think people will change their mind about a car cause of someone's opinion on the internet? Or because bunch of v8 fan boys are chiming in? When someone has over 80k to spend on a car they have already made up their mind, order placed and they can hardly care what some poster says. BMW sales getting hurt because of this thread? Where do you come up with such a statement? I signed on here today finally after creeping for over a month and placing my order and it's amazing at some of the posters comments and opinions. E90 or even GTR forums is night and day from here.

I don't know your financials but 12k left? You can't be doing bad at all owning the M3 and buying a new M so keep it. Low miles, paid off? It's a no brainer, that is a manly mans drive way seeing both cars parked next to one another
There's a lot of car that I'd prefer to own before owning two generations of M3!

M3 + 911
M3 + Cayman S
M3 + RS5
M3 + GT-R
M3 + R8
M3 + TT RS

but M3 + M3 seems like a waste of money to me!
Agreed, I don't see myself ever buying 2 of the same car.... Especially one right after another

Car is going to perform, there is no doubt. But I would almost rather it be more quiet, than sound like that.

A butt plug would help with that since it sounds like a fart can with that said I like the raspy sound, it brings back memory of the old school M3s.

+1 (unfortunately)

I usually don't even listen to exhaust sounds from video because they differ so much from reality. After watching this thread develop though, I finally took a listen. Now I'm wishing I hadn't. It really does sound miserably like a lawn mower.

Waiting to hear it in person; I can't imagine BMW would release the car sounding like that. I'm (very) cautiously optimistic that they will still deliver.

Very disappointing. I know the car is amazing, but M cars are becoming even more similar to non M cars. M engines were unique. I love the S54 and S65 motors. Guess those days are over.

Worst sounding vehicle EVER! I MUCH prefer the sound of the N55 to that weird rattly 2 stroke 4 cylinder dirt bike sounding exhaust! FAIL BMW!

(goto 45 seconds)

I listened on a laptop, headphones, and iPhone speakers and it sounds terrible. This is only MY OPINION. I find it hard to believe BMW would put out a product that sounds like this. It just has to sound better. I mean the 335IS sounds miles better.

I need to hear it live or in reviews to make final judgement. For those who say sound won't affect purchasing, it may affect my decision. Don't get me wrong I truly want to like it. And to those who enjoy the sound, to each their own, no wrong or right opinion.

As I'm sure you know, only so much (not much) you can do with a turbo. It is the nature of the beast...

Exactly. Just what I have been saying.

Not true at all, it is the turbo that destroys the sound not all all the number of cylinders or their layout (as pointed out earlier).
