763m Rear and Cup 2 305/30/R20?

Hi guys,

My 763m (F82) needs a new set of summer tires, and I'm wondering if 305/30/R20 will be too aggressive for the Rear 20x10 ET+40, will it rub? And what about 295/30/r20?

Thanks a ton!

Hmm, I bet it would balloon like crazy. I’d keep the 285 on there.

A MPSC2 305/30-20 is way too wide for a 10” wide wheel and will have a tire diameter that’s also ~0.5” larger than stock. The minimum recommended wheel width is 10.5” but it’ll still overhang on a 10.5” wheel by 0.8”. It’ll be roughly a 1.3” overhang on a 10” wide wheel. 1.3” overhang doesn’t sound like much until you actually see the overhang on a 10” wheel! There are plenty of articles and YouTube videos discussing/showing the widest tire on the narrowest wheel doesn’t result in higher grip. A 285 is the widest tire you should run on a 10”, 295 on a 10.5” and 305 on an 11”. I tried a 295 on the stock 10” wide wheel, it didn’t look good and it didn’t have improved grip over a 285/275 tire mounted on a 10” wide wheel. Basically, I proved what all of these articles/videos were already showing/proving. A MPSC2 305 and 295 are too wide for a 10” wheel width.

I think that's the only solution for the 763m, I thought a wider tire will give me more grip cuz I feel like the cup2 is a bit slippery running on street.

Wow, thank you so much for the insights, that definitely saves me some time and money. I guess wider tires dont necessarily give you more grip. I either go for wider wheels or stick with the 285, I just find the Cup2 is kinda slippery on the street...

Cup 2s are NOT a street friendly tire simply because they take WAY too much time to warm up and they will not warm up at all in mild temperatures on street driving. I went through several sets before I ditched them.

I'd give the RE71RS tires a go for street use.

I do agree that a MPSC2 is not the best choice for a street tire but for different reasons.

I’ve used MPSC2s on the street and at temperatures far lower than what Michelin recommends. It does have low grip when it’s cold but if you know and respect it then it’s not a major issue. Drive regularly for ~30 min and then start gradually pushing them harder in corners. They also do quite well in the rain. I wouldn’t recommend running them in a torrential downpour or monsoon! My issue with using the MPSC2 as a street tire is how quickly they heat cycle out so you’re left with a tire that has useable tread left but very little grip regardless of how hot you get them. If you’re able to absorb the running & replacement costs of MPSC2s every 5-6k miles (I was able to use them for ~12k miles) and throwing away tires with useable tread depth then go for it but if you’re type that wants to get at least 25k miles then go for a new set of MPSS/MPS4S tires. If you’re looking for a street tire with high performance and high grip, I’d look at the different options in the Extreme Performance category - similar, or higher, street grip than the MPSC and last for 15-25k miles.

Agreed... mine heat cycled out after only a few thousand miles.
