Some BMW action that would be fitting for BMW launches

Watching that video reminded me all the new stuff that F8x cars brought over previous M3.
- Carbon Ceramic Brakes
- Much improved standard brakes
- Lower weight even though new one was larger
- CF strut bar, driveshaft, and roof for sedan
- Brand new engines with Performance on next level.

Things we lost were NA motor/sound and hydraulic steering but everything else was huge improvement and felt like a leap forward worthy of next gen ///M car.

The G8x has not really brought anything new to move the needle performance wise or any new features/tech?! It did get bigger, heavier, uglier.

Am I missing something....

Nope, you pretty much summed it up.

I will say the AWD is intriguing but even that is delayed and they really haven’t even talked it up that much.
They removed all the CF bits except the roof, the rear brakes are worse now. Not to mention no more DCT.

I wish they offered next level performance Features like Rear Active Steer which i have on my 911.

From a performance perspective- you can make a case F8x is still the better car!

Couple more;
1) Significant cooling improvements
2) Closed deck engine which increases rigidity, allowing these crazy power levels to be reached in tuned cars.

Hence, aside from the SPH issues, we have yet to see any recurring reliability issues like the S65 saw.

I said it before in a prior thread, this new M platform is meh. It's really only for 1) people who like shiny new things 2) that new demographic that BMW marketing is aiming for (certainly not me!). Again, I feel lucky that I have the F80 M3.

Best part of the G8X video was the last 15 seconds. Basically when you could actually see what the car looked like in proper lighting.

Watching the F80 promo vid makes me so happy I have one, and makes me want to drive.
Watching the E9x promo vid reminds me that I love the E92 and want to drive.
Watching the E46 promo vid further resonates with the love of cars and driving and makes me want to drive.
Watching the old BMW films made me 100% fall in love with BMW way back when.

They are all car and driving focused.

The G80 promo is , yeah its just weird. Do I need to rise up against corporate policy and host my own fashion model parties in industrial warehouses? what?

edit: Thanks friends for posting this, the old BMWfilms and thanks for the follow up vids of prev gens.

Still my favorite BMW M commercial. They don't make them like they used to.

Watching the old M car ads makes me think that someone actually stood up at a marketing meeting at BMW Corporate and proposed..."You know how all those previous ///M car ads were all filmed on gorgeous race tracks...well...we're going to do something different for the new one. We're going to throw all that history out and rock this thing around a dirty ol shipping warehouse...with spastic lighting, chain saws and a guy screaming his head off for no apparent reason. What do y'all think?". And the rest of them nodded their heads, agreed it was a great idea and went along with it. No other way this could have happened.

Oh, and loved the F8x commercial. That in my mind is the perfect representation of what BMW and M meant. Thanks for sharing that.
Don't worry I'm 25 and I had no idea what Kith was either lol.

In those days, the M3 looked like top athlete wearing a nicely tailored business suit. Now, well...

It is the most obvious symbol yet. Old is about you. New is about what others think about you.
Owning M cars has made me realize that we start off as kids who want outlandish exciting vehicles and then we get older and get our boring first cars only to end up back at our childhood mindset except this time it's in our driveway. Are M cars necessary? Not at all in the purely practical sense, but we love them and for many of us nothing less will do!

I don’t know if the target is the younger crowd either. I’m turning 50 and thought the G80 design, weight and size increase are crap. The first thing my 20 year old nephew who I saw 2 days after the release is ask me if I’ve seen the ugly new M cars.

In any event these will probably be the last M3/4 cars before they go all electric. Will be a perfect excuse to say there no longer is a market for performance gasoline cars, due to lousy sales.

The new G80/82 to me are Michael Jackson after all the plastic surgeries. Only worse - since I couldn’t stand Michael Jackson anyways.

I'm honestly quite embarrassed calling myself a BMW fan for the last 28 years after watching that video.

We old timers used to make fun of the Bangle design, when they announced X5, then M X5, then X6, but that G80 video totally takes the soul out of the marquee. I'm not a brand elitist, but WTF BMW????!
