Hissing Sound when under load (video included)

I recently noticed my 2015 (DCT) has been making a serious hissing noise under load.

This just started after changing the spark plugs and oil.

There are no visible cracks to the charge pipes and the oil cap is tight. Power doesn't seem to be impacted (or at least nothing obviously noticeable).

Thoughts?

I had the same sound.

Most likely an air leak of some sort

I just changed the plugs myself and was surprised to see that the metal clamps at the intercooler pipes junction were a little bit loose. On the passenger side of the intercooler

Make sure that they tightened them properly.

Just grab a flat head screwdriver or a hex nut to tighten them.

Hope this solves your problem.

Thanks for the response. Was that your issue? Loose charge pipe connection to the cooler?

I took off both charge pipes, check for cracks, remounted them and no luck. Still hissing on acceleration.

I did notice that grommet mount or whatever it's called in missing from the lower intake pipe. Could that be causing it?

- Checked both charge pipes (no cracks)
- replaced oil cap
- installed missing bolt on intake tube

Still hissing under load. Any other ideas?

My other thought is the seal is not secure. try tightening those clamps hard.

Get the long-wire lavaliere microphone and tape it in different spots to hunt down the noise.

First, the grommet you speak of looks ok. The grommet sits in its perch on the other side of what we are looking at in this pic. I will confirm.

Quick question. Did you check to make sure the o-ring('s) in charge pipes is there and not damaged? They sit recessed inside the BOTTOM of the charge pipes. It is not uncommon for those to be misplaced or pinched.

Good luck regardless! And like TJ said, mic up and isolate what side, etc. Maybe have a bro sit on the motor while your accelora.... Oh, wait. This isn't 1979 is it....

That normally won't leak and if it does the charge pipe popped off, which is going to be way more audible than what OP is experiencing.

If the car has stock CPs and intakes I wonder if it's on the intake side, where a stock airbox is not sealed right and creates the sound when the turbos are trying to breathe. Troubleshooting over the net sucks.

+1 on above. Make sure on the worm clamps that they're in the right spot in the plastic grooves. Tighten pretty damn snug (by hand) but don't break anything.

Also, check the o-ring that seals the short-stack to the rear turbo. That little stack should be well greased with a finger smear so it seals well. This stack goes up to the plastic 90 and the short intake. A 10mm bolts the stack down to the valve cover.

Yo!

I checked about that grommet. Mine has a bolt holding down the intake pipe, so yours is missing. So the intake pipe could be loose.

Looks like a 10mm bolt. Did uou have anything left over when you changed the plugs?

FIXED

I unbolted the clamps to the intercooler, then repositioned and tightened. Good to go!

Thanks everyone for the help.

2015F80 wins this round of What's That Noise?!

He gets a slightly used set of lug nuts.
