Lighter Flywheel Upgrade?

It seems like lighter flywheels are not a common mod for the F8X platform? I've searched on the forum/Google and it doesn't seem like anyone's talked about it nor are there a lot of manufacturers.

Edit:

Looking for single mass in steel preferably. Really just looking to get quicker revs out of the flywheel.

I think most people upgrade them with a new clutch. I have the clutch master aluminum flywheel with their twin disc clutch.

Yeah it looks like that one is the few ones available for our platform.

How much quicker are revs in neutral?

How do you like it compared to stock for street driving?

Edit: just realized you're DCT.

BimmerWorld offers a SM lightweight Aluminum flywheel for the MT. OP doesn’t say anything about DMF vs. SMF so this may be an option.

No it’s a 6MT.

I just installed it and it’s a track only car. It’s ceramic so I can already tell you it sucks on the street. I’ve heard the organic clutch isn’t too bad on the street but can’t confirm.

Thanks, I saw this one. I'm looking for a SMF with the goal of getting quicker revs.

I'm sensing you recently saw a video review of the fancypants 911 S/T with its lightweight SMF?

Nope but do share it

I did actually watch this Porsche video right before making the post. He has an older Boxster but man that thing revved up so quick with the SMF.

Here's one I also watched of an e92 M3 with a lighter flywheel. That thing revved up super quick also!

Compared this to my M2C, which revs up much slower, made me really consider a lighter flywheel...

Are you guys considering the flywheel chatter?

For a track car, its fine but i wouldnt recommend it for street driving only. I have a 98 M3 with a SM LTW FW, and its so noisy... Not recommended if you dont like your car sounding broken. Having AC on makes it worse.

I didn’t have chattering issues, w/ and w/o AC on/off, on my e46 M3 and s2000. If you do get chatter, raising the idle speed slightly will eliminate the chatter.

I briefly had a lighter flywheel on my E90, the chatter made the car sound broken. Removed it after less than a month

Never again unless it's a non street legal car getting towed to the track

I made a whole master thread with all available clutches and flywheels (at the time of the post). Should be able to find it searching for “master aftermarket clutch”

Lighter flywheels definitely rev quicker…just like lighter wheels, loss of unsprung weight leads to faster acceleration.
Physics is KeWL

Swapping bolts for titanium anywhere on the driveline that are rotational bolts also helps (just did this myself on guibo, and have ti clutch and flywheel hardware going in soon)
