Lightbulb Race driver Bruno Spengler presents the all-new BMW M3 and M4

When developing the new BMW M3 Sedan and new BMW M4 Coupe, the BMW M engineers could count not only on track-honed technologies, but also on the driving talent of experienced racers. For example, Bruno Spengler, BMW Motorsport work drivers in the DTM Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (German Touring Car Masters) series, took part in extensive testing and set-up runs on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit.

“I’m proud to have made a contribution to the set-up work on these two cars,” says 2012 DTM champion Spengler, who also took third place in the 2013 series.

Bruno Spengler adds:

“The suspension has a very sporty set-up, the feedback from the front axle is extremely direct."

"The grip at the rear axle is phenomenal and the engine performance is awesome. This is the ideal basis for our DTM car.”

Size: 76.5 KB

“As a race driver, I’m very impressed by the instant, lag-free response from the two turbos as soon you step on the gas."

Size: 128.9 KB

"This is a sensational feature of this engine which translates to more fun at the wheel and is perfect for sporty driving.”

“The electronic power steering is very precise, and from my point of view as a race driver that’s very, very important. It responds instantly to inputs and provides excellent feedback.”

Name: spengler7.jpg
Views: 1844
Size: 101.1 KB

„“The rear axle has a very progressive locking action, due to the electronically controlled limited-slip differential, and generates huge amounts of grip..”

Name: spengler8.jpg
Views: 2475
Size: 88.4 KB

“ The electronic control system is configured so that when you lift off the gas going into corners, the differential opens up and the lock-up effect is reduced to zero, resulting in very eager turn-in."

Name: spengler9.jpg
Views: 1839
Size: 91.2 KB

" When you accelerate out of the corner again, the lock-up engages progressively all the way up to 100 per cent full lock, for optimal traction.”

Bruno is 100% sold and endorses a turbo lag free response from new system. Debate over!

Haha

The only thing that s the same on the DTM car are the look of the front and rear lights and the bmw logo.

Thank you m3post.com members for the very healthy skepticism here of folks paid by BMW and BMW Marketing!

All in their own very carefully scheduled and choreographed time thank you very much.

And he is in no way affiliated with or compensated by BMW, so you know his opinion is going to be entirely objective.

He would have been more believable if he said the lag is not noticeable.
Not quite, various F1 systems under development including an electric motor based supplement to normal gas pressure driven turbo chargers likely can produce a throttle response indistinguishable from a top notch NA response. Perhaps you means for a "conventional turbo engine...".

Also, on a semantic note isn't a turbo with no noticeable lag also "lag free"?

Race engine?
The s65 was not used in any pro racing aside from Continental Challenge....and those were basically e92m3s with bolt ons.
The ALMS M3 GT2, the Turner Rolex e92m3 and the Rolex DP cars powered by BMW all used older modified s62 engines that have been out of production since 2003.
The s62 v8 from the e39m5 was the go to engine for most BMW race v8 programs.

There's a nasty disconnect between factory-supported, pro racing and sports production cars that claim DNA from the race car of the same name/look.
These manufacturers assume the public is gullible enough to drive a street Corvette and tell their family & friends that the same car won the 24 hrs. of LeMans last year.

I suppose its residual of olden days when they actually sold almost the same car on Monday that they raced on Sunday.
