Has anyone NOT had issues with Bilstein Damptronic?
Hi
Currently running the standard PSS10 with EDC coded out & looking to upgrade to a set of damptronic as it's becoming tiresome getting under the car everytime I want the suspension adjusted. Keep reading about people having issues with a faulty wire and the EDC function not working either immediately or later on down the road. This isn't something I'd want to deal with especially not on a $2000+ coilover. Have these issues been resolved with the EDC errors and has anyone ran these for 2years plus with NO issues? Thanks |

I've had zero issues with the Damptronic electronics. I have only had them for 1500 miles but moving to a MCS 3way setup in a few weeks. They are good but I want more adjustability.

18 months and no issues...other than Bilstein having to send new EDC connectors before the original install as the only one that was in the original kit was damaged. The other was missing entirely. Also, 12 of those 18 months have been COVID months, so probably only 5,000 miles.
I recently had CS EDC coded, and that was a massive improvement. |

Thanks for the replies. Quite unnerving that even in this thread people are having issues with damaged sensors. Are they really that fragile? Would have thought bilstein QC would be top notch.
Seeing as the B6 also have a damptronic also interested to hear B6 damptronic owners experience with reliability when it comes to the EDC aspect. Afterall that's the option were paying a premium for ! |

Thanks guys.
Well I've gone ahead and bit the bullet I'm having my indy install me a set of damptronics tomorrow morning. I've preemptively flashed EDC CS software so fingers crossed all goes well. Will update with a new post with my review on the three seperate modes. |

Haha yes I've studied your reviews closely. Fortunately I believe our circumstances and tolerances for stiff may differ slightly as running the PSS10 on nearly full stiff is still ok for me. I do however miss switching to slightly less stiff when the wifey is in the car. Either way I'll update you all with my thoughts. Thanks for your help guys as always.

I have the B16D and it works great.
However, I will warn you not to slam it. Ride quality suffered when it was too low. I think it was reducing suspension travel too much and it hits the bump stops. With a modest lowering, just enough to eliminate or even out wheel gap, the ride is pretty good. It's def on the stiff side, but I also installed camber plates which made it a little stiffer since its all metal on metal now, so I wouldn't know what it felt like without camber plates. Do I wish I went with a full track oriented MCS 3 way setup? Kind of. But I enjoy the convenience of changing the settings on the fly. Comfort is not quite as comfortable as I would have hoped, but I'm used to driving stiff cars and it's not my daily driver, so no big deal. Has anyone else switched from the ZCP coding to CS coding? I've been debating doing this, and am not sure what to do. There is some slight bounciness in comfort mode, and I wouldn't mind sport-plus being stiffer for track use. |

I switched from ZCP to CS coding after several thousand miles on ZCP coding. Ive seen some people say CS is too stiff with B16s and they switched back to ZCP. I cant say that I noticed any change in stiffness, but I noticed a huge improvement in the bounciness department. Comfort setting was almost useless with ZCP coding as the bounciness was ridiculous. I use comfort quite often with the CS coding, though. Honestly, I cant imagine going back to ZCP coding.
I also went with camber plates when B16 was installed, so no experience without them. And I pretty quickly had the rear raised almost an inch from the original installation as the lower ride height was not tolerable. Since switching to CS coding Ive pondered dropping the rear back down a bit. |

Only issue I came across is the reverse functionality of the EDC.
Sport Plus was comfort, comfort was Sport Plus. Drove me insane until I figured it out. The EDC needs to be recalibrated and then the issue is sorted. Other than that, had no faulty wires or error codes.

I was probably one of the threads you read about the faulty wire. Its really hit or miss in my opinion. Yet as these cars get older, I'd rather cancel out any electronic system if possible and go static as it seems like it'd be less of a headache later down the line.

I also had an issue with a wire which corroded and I think has let water into the wire connected to the damper ( wire replaced and not resolved issue ).
Waiting now for a replacement damper from Bilstein which is a "custom order" and will take 3-4 weeks. After chasing it up they are asking for another 2-3 weeks!! Bilstein customer service is shite and I wouldn't buy from them again. Apart from that they are good shocks and massive improvement over stock.

Hi !
Do you mind explaining the recalibration step ? I read somewhere that you need to do a recalibration of the ride height in ISTA but could not get more info on that. A BMW tech told me that this was not possible but he did not seem to know much... Quote:
