My first thought is to tow it to the dealer as to prevent any oil starvation and more danger to the block

Damaged oil cooler resulting in oil loss? Improper oil change fill? Faulty sensor? Do not drive with that fault.

Thought I'd update this one. The car went into the main dealer for a checkup. Turns out it needed 2 liters of engine oil. Is this my fault for not checking periodically...? It's worth noting there were no warning notification, no "oil level low as oil, etc".

Not an expert here but loosing 2 liters of oil is not normal

Even If it's getting close to an oil change with no warning lights on since the last change?

I know that bmw will probably tell you it's normal and some people do add some oil after certain miles driven. I haven't had yet to add any oil to mine that's why I am thinking it's a little high but it depends how long you have driven since last oil change, how hard you drive your car and some other factors.
I just think loosing a third of your oil between oil changes is a bit high

That sounds very odd. The s55 is not known to consume oil. I actually can't recall a single post on here of anyone saying they needed to add oil between changes. Furthermore, once you were about one quart down you would get a low oil indicator telling you to add oil. Being 2L down on oil seems like something is wrong. Was the fill cap or drain plug not secured properly and leaking oil? Sounds like there must be a substantial leak somewhere, enough that you lost a lot of oil and and even experienced pressure issues if there wasn't a proper seal.

I agree with your comments. I've lost all faith in my local main dealer [see my other posts] so have booked it in with a reputable indi garage for tomorrow. I guess the oil level sensor will also need checking as I had no warnings what so ever.

FWIW the 135i will flag low oil at 1 litre low. Not sure about other models.

Also the BMW M tech doco says 1 litre consumption per 1000 kms is normal. Have no idea what some manufacturers are smoking..
