M3 F80 - Comp vs. Non Comp

Hi all - as per my title - other than the obvious differences, what's the comp pack like day to day compared to the non-comp pack. Main things I'm interested in are:

- Is the exhaust noisier to live with on a day to day compared to non-comp

- Is the ride height different, comp pack seems to sit slightly higher at first glance, is that the difference in springs/dampers or the fact it has 20 in wheels? Would changing the wheels to the 19's 437m make it sit the same?

- Is the ride firmer mainly because of the wheels or the suspension set up?

- Aesthetically the comp pack seats look nice, but are they less comfortable than the standard (other than the fact you loose lumbar support). Especially on long distant drives

Keen to hear your experiences/thoughts. Thanks

I've had both and do a 100 daily commute and I couldn't tell you any obvious differences, however I do miss the lumbar adjustment on the CP.

I haven't owned the non-CP but the exhaust is a delight, in comfort mode it's no louder than my 430d was whilst just tootling about. But it's a joy to have a button which flips the car into a crazed massacre of backfires and burbles on demand when you feel in the mood, which tbh is pretty much all the time whilst the novelty is still strong, I've had the car in sport+ mode for 98% of my 1200 miles so far.
If you go for the convertible CP you get to keep the lumbar support, not sure if that's an option.

That was a superb quality high production video, honestly could have been a BBC road test it was done that well!
However, I'm not sure who this video was marketed at, but it wouldn't have helped me make a decision if I'd saw that prior to my purchase. There was quite a fair bit of relevant information intentionally omitted because (based off the interaction in the comments) the reviewer personally doesn't feel those differences matter therefore it wasn't deemed relevant to mention. If it was titled "comparison of comfort and traction" it would have been a useful watch in addition to other videos, but on its own there wouldn't have been enough in there to have gave me a good idea on the full extent of the differences between the CP and non-CP. Still, it was an enjoyable watch, very professionally done.

Thanks for the replies and links all, does help. Anyone now if the exhaust burbling in sport+ is down to the actual box itself or something that can be coded out and anyone know if I changed the wheels to the 437m, whether this would make a difference to the ride height, as I have noticed a slight difference in overall ride height but not sure if its the springs or the different wheel size between the comp and non-comp. Thanks

I should add, the only reason I'm considering/asking the above is because I'm struggling to find a standard M3, so thinking of getting a comp-pack and making it as close to the standard M3, bar the seats and few other items

Burbles are from the ECU, ie. part of the tune rather than exhaust (which is also different).

I've run my CP with 437 and 666 with no noticeable ride height difference but of course it will be ever so slightly different.

I wouldn't say there is enough difference in the cars to try and make a CP look like a non-CP. Doesn't make sense to me.

If I was ordering my CP again, I'd get the 19" wheels over 20" which are just a tad too firm for my liking these days. I've got a set of 19" for winter and will be getting another for summer too.

Otherwise, the CP is a no brainer for me really.

I've just taken a set of 19s off - for reasons the picture shows

You are right, going back to the 20s you do feel it.

I do like the look of the 666s though.

No I agree I wouldn't go to lengths making a CP look non-CP, just change the wheels and ideally have the burbles sound coded out (if that's even possible) - otherwise can live with the black exhaust tips over the chrome I like on the non-CP, I know there's not much in it, just a personal preference

Fair enough.

The be honest, with all the ODB port mapping available now I think losing the burbles should be simple.

I love the look of them too but you can't see them when driving over the potholes in Manchester!

Had an M4. Ride was harsh and never seemed to settle with it. Recently drove an M3 CP. The difference was very noticeable with a much more forgiving drive as an every day car in Comfort. Ordered and car due next weekend.

To be honest, I couldn't believe the difference and how my better the M3 CP was. In Comfort it's so much better than non CP. In Sport+ it's the beast I wanted. What a car...

Might have to go back out in one, maybe didn’t give it a fair chance.

I'm comparing 2015 M4 with 2018 M3 CP. In my opinion it's so much a better car as an all rounder. I had the M3 CP test drive for 2 hours on my own, so put it through its paces on my local roads and loved it. I think it's been continually developed into the car it would eventually become. Can't wait for mine - due in a week.

This I would agree with - I drove a late 2015 M3 and really disliked it whereas I'm loving my 2017 CP!

OP....there's like a 100 page thread on this very topic...would've made a lot more sense to read through that. Literally answers even nuance (and much more) to your original questions..

Get comp. once u factor in $1200 that you would pay for on wheels on non comp car comp pack only has diff of $3500ish between comp and non comp.

I have had both and based on my experience in comfort mode the exhaust, ride comfort, etc is same.

In fact I thought my 18 comp with 20s was more comfortable ride than non comp 15 with 18 inch wheels. Just my observation.

Why do you pay extra for wheels on a standard car even BMW wouldn't stoop that low not to provide wheels.

If you want the 19inch wheels you gotta pay $1200 in the US. Considering most of in the US would order with the 19s not the 18s..might as well add that $1200 into the price. When that is factored in the price diff for comp pack is only $3500. Comp already comes with 20s
