I guess that I was too optimistic, and Baja California is a lot longer than I realized, as Morning Crown is still offshore from Baja California, approaching Ensenada, and heading northwest at 15.7kn. So she should definitely be passing San Diego sometime today. Here's her current position:

Well seems the ship is docked and my car is marked as "At The Port". Hopefully next stop Mountain View...

I've been out of town and couldn't post this earlier, but Morning Crown arrived at Port Hueneme on 2018-09-19 @ 06:03. Here's her position at dock in Port Hueneme via MarineTraffic:

She departed Port Hueneme and headed for Tacoma later the same day. She departed Tacoma at 18:36 yesterday and is now on her way to Yokohama, Japan.

Now just the wait as the car moves through the black hole that is Customs and the VDC and makes it to our dealer in San Diego. We're hoping that we have the car makes it to the dealer by 10/1, as we have an out of town trip on 10/3.

Big thanks to OP for creating this thread! It’s been convenient to watch. I have an X1 at the port from this boat and it seems to be taking a long time to be released.

It’s headed to Medford, OR and Genius had it scheduled to arrive to dealer today (25th). Now they say it’s awaiting completion of a work order and no new arrival date. They also said that every car has a work order for US nav loading etc.

You have entered the unfortunate black hole that I was in. They keep telling you the work order is open, but nothing further. You best bet is to have your CA call his/her contacts there, they can usually get some more specific information.

For reference, my M2C arrived at the dealership on Friday 21st and I picked it up on Sunday. Really wasn't expecting that sort of turnaround.

It shouldn't take that long. My M4 arrived to Port Hueneme two years ago on 06/04 and I took delivery on 06/09 afternoon in NorCal. I also had rear spoiler, diffuser, and M performance exhaust as port install.

Congrats! That's impressive since Morning Crown only arrived (very early) in Port Hueneme on Wednesday, September 19 and it was at your dealer two days later!

Must not have been an ED car and no port-installed accessories.

Great to have that kind of turnaround! My wife's M3 is a Euro Delivery and ED cars have to go through Customs first and have the lowest priority at the VDC. NorCal cars are almost always delivered before SoCal cars for whatever reason.

In 2016, my M4 arrived at Port Hueneme on Friday, July 1, just before the Independence Day Holiday weekend. I took redelivery at the dealer on Wednesday, July 19, almost three weeks after it arrived at port. It was literally the last car delivered from the Tiranna, based on my tracking thread in the European Delivery forum. Some people got their (non-ED) cars two weeks before me. All of the 13 other cars in our group Euro Delivery were delivered at least a week before mine. True story.

In 2011, the same thing. My wife's 335is Coupe arrived at Port Heuneme the Friday before the Independence Day Holiday weekend. Again, based on my tracking thread on Bimmerfest, it was literally the last car delivered.

I'm not optimistic!

My ED M2 was on this ship and I haven't heard anything yet from my dealer. Hoping it's in by 10/5 since I have a flight to CA to pick it up...

I wandered over to the M2 forum and took a look at your trip report. Your trip incorporated some bits from all three of our Euro Delivery trips in 2011, 2016, and last July, plus stuff we've haven't done before. Our first trip included the Munich-Salzburg-Innsbruck-Zurich portion (although we stayed in Murren), as well as Strasbourg and Heidelberg. In both 2016 and in July we stayed in Grindelwald; in July it was on our way to Paris via Dijon. It looks like you enjoyed yourselves! Bonus to have family in Germany!

Where's your dealer?

Sweet, thanks for checking it out! We definitely had a great time. We loved Grindelwald (just did the day trip). Next time I'd like to spend a few days in that area. It was incredible.

I ordered through Steve Thomas BMW in Camarillo. Haven't heard from my sales rep yet, but hoping he'll give me the go ahead here soon. I'd really hate to cancel my trip next Friday, but if it happens it happens.

Had CA call and they got a new delivery date to dealer of 10/25. No details on the nature of the hold-up. Grrrrr

Euro Delivery cars used to be delivered at BMW Welt with the Euro maps loaded, to allow customers to navigate while in Europe. When the car got to a VDC the Euro maps were overwritten with US maps, which took hours to complete, slowing down the process at the VDC. This was the case with my wife's 2011 E92 335is. Non-ED cars had the US maps loaded during the manufacturing process and didn't have to go through the hours long process at the VDC.

Now, at least on the M3/M4/M2, the cars are delivered at BMW Welt with the US maps, and a tiny USB stick with the Euro maps is inserted into the USB port in the console which allows navigation in Europe but with a few features missing. This was the case with my 2016 M4 and my wife's 2018 M3.

It seems odd that they would still do it the former way with the X1, but that process may differ by model and/or manufacturing plant.

I saw your more recent post and it really sucks that your car is going to be at the VDC for almost a month. I would press your CA to see if he can find out what is causing the delay. It may have been a parts recall/replacement or the car may have been damaged in transit.

It's Here!

I just got notified by our CA that our M3 is here! I called my wife and she's leaving work as soon as she can get things squared away. Our dealer is about 20 minutes away.

This is earlier than we expected, but now it gives me all weekend to get all of the CF goodies, the painted front reflectors, the grille stripes, etc. installed and get the car prepped for the detailer. I've already made an appoint for Tuesday morning for Ceramic Pro, X-pel full front clear bra, and tint.

Woohoo!

(Oops, forgot to hit Submit before I left for the dealer! This was at 1:30 PM PDT)

That's great, congrats! That gives me hope that mine will hit the dealership this week if it hasn't already.

Good luck!

Here's some redelivery pics:

And of course we had to get it out in the sun!

If the car looks a bit dirty, it's because we instructed the dealer NOT to wash the car. It's going in for Ceramic Pro, XPEL full front clear bra, and Suntek tint tomorrow. We spent all day Saturday installing the CF rear spoiler (Betalink is a bitch to work with, and since BMW now uses it instead of double-sided tape, the original Gurney flap was a real bitch to clean up after we removed it), painted front reflectors, front grille stripes, and Nurburgring sticker (my wife legit earned that on a previous trip). Also got the CF interior goodies installed (shift knob, shift surround, and parking brake cover with Alcantara boot). Still have to install the V1, M Performance pedals, and of course, some coding.

According to the dealer, mine's still at the VPC. Work order was started on 9/24, which was the last update. Not feeling too confident about a 10/5 pick up anymore...

Congrats on car, OP!

Called CA to see if they could get more info on the "work order". The statement back was that US Dept of Transportation was doing additional inspections and something about the rear window. My CA hasn't had the most reliable info so far so I'm not counting on those comments as hard facts.

BMW Genius said there was no "hold" on the car which seemed good. A hold would typically indicate work being done such as recall or parts work.

Best of luck to all those expecting a car soon and if you have received yours then enjoy!
