Break in

For people who had already done their break in, and actually take time to follow and baby their car, do you guys think that if someone drove that car over 5500 and messed up the break in process you would be able to tell?

I have tried to be good. But I may have accidentally took it over 105 or 5500 a time or two. But I'm doing service at 1000 miles because I can't wait any more.

I doubt it. If that were the case we would be hearing about this a lot. Also, without sending your ECU to BMW, they won't really have anyway to tell.

Are you just worried about your warranty?

I intend on keeping my car for a while and one of the people at my dealer drove the car for my inspection and I know all of them abuse the cars and was just wondering if there was a way to tell

So what you're saying is I could send or check the ecu through BMW to see the maximum rpm ever hit on my car? Also any dealer or a specific place? Thanks again for your help

Hypothetically that's possible. I'm not sure what would be involved in getting to that point.

M cars have been tested 70% on track, its highly unlikely been "abused" just by hitting rev over 5500. Drive like you rent it!

Anyone who knows proper engine break-in procedure will look at an owner's manual's instructions and laugh.

Its very controlled and for a very short period only to confirm proper working of the engine and brakes.

Test can be seen here from the 20 minute mark (E46 production video)

This. The motor pretty much comes "broken-in" from the factory. The 1500 mile disclosure is written by lawyers in fear you'll kill yourself off the lot. It's kind of a "take it easy till you get used to the car" rule.
