BMW M4 servicing

Hi - recentLy purchased a 3 year old BMW M4 which now requires a Major service. I am sure this has been discussed numerous times but cant find any links. I have been quoted a "reduced" rate by BMW Peterborough of £894 for the full service but then £440 by an independent garage which seems to have good reviews. They have stated all parts will be exactly the same and will update the history and computer in the car. Not really sure if this is the route to take as hard to tell the quality of the work and if anyone buys the car in the future , it will be de valued. I always go main dealer but that is because they are all under 3 years old. Any advice?

A decent BMW specialist will do the same job, be able to update the service history online and save some money!

Major Service

I've just had mine done at Lister's of Boston. Was initially told it was only due a small service as its only got 8500miles on the clock. Further investigation and it turns out because the car is approx 4 years old it was due a large service. I supplied my own oil to try and reduce costs a little and I didn't need air filters as I'd put Performance panel filters in recently. Quoted retail price for the service was £874, but they discounted it to me and I ended up paying £592. So nearly £300 off. I thought this was a pretty good price ?

I don't own a M4 however I took my 340i in for a service at one dealer and they quoted me over £800 for a major service. Took called up the dealer I bought the car from and they quoted in just under £500. Both official BMW dealers couldn't work out the price difference, same parts service etc.
